【小学館の名作文芸朗読】 主人公の「私」と節子の深い愛情を描いた物語。二人は山のサナトリウムでともに療養生活を送っていた。病弱な節子を「私」は深く愛し、二人は互いに支え合う生活をしていた。しかし、節子の病状が次第に悪化していく。節子は喀血を繰り返すようになった。「私」は仕事に専念する必要があると考えて、二人は別々の部屋で生活することになる。「私」は小説の執筆に専念するが、幸福に関する描写をうまく表現できずにいた。一方、節子の死は確実に近付いているのだった……。©- (P)エイトリンクス 大衆小説 文芸小説

I loved the story of the same name told by Miyazaki Hayao so much and decided to listen to it as it was also highly recommended.
But for me there were actually no new discoveries in the book. It was more like an essay about a simple life and the main character’s emotions and efforts to overcome the death and find happiness and beauty in life without a person he loved. Personally, I find Ghibli’s animation deeper and it contains more problems to consider of.

I would recommend the book for Japanese learners of intermediate and upper intermediate levels, they would probably enjoy it.
