Welcome to Day 3 of our Jabez journey. Today, we reflect on the name “Jabez”—a name his mother gave him because she bore him in pain.
In ancient cultures, a name wasn’t just a label; it was a declaration of destiny and identity. Every time someone called Jabez, they were calling him “Pain” or “Sorrow.”
Imagine living each day with a name that speaks hardship over you!
Yet, despite this legacy of difficulty, Jabez became a man of honor, known for his prayer and for God’s answer.
His story reminds us that our identity is not defined by past failure or shame, but by the God who redeems.
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you that you see beyond the names, labels, or pain that our past may have given us.
Like Jabez, many of us walk through life carrying memories, wounds, or words that speak of hardship or disappointment.
Father, we come to you seeking redemption and restoration.
We ask for your healing in places of our hearts marked by sorrow or struggle.
We pray for those still suffering—physically, emotionally, mentally, or relationally—especially where resources or support are lacking, that you will bring a turnaround in their lives as you did for Jabez.
Bless us, O Lord, and enlarge our borders—expand our hope, our influence, and healing in our lives.
Let your hand be with us; keep us from evil and harm.
May our lives speak not of pain, but of your amazing grace and redemption.
Amen.
