    Grace and peace to you in Christ Jesus.

    In this sermon for the Sixth Sunday after Trinity, we hear Jesus' words from Matthew 5:20–26, where He teaches that true righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees—not by our own works, but through the righteousness He gives to His people.

    Confronted by God's holy Law, we confess that we cannot fulfill His perfect standard. Yet Christ has done for us what we could never do ourselves. Through His perfect obedience, His atoning death, and His glorious resurrection, He freely grants His righteousness to all who trust in Him. Freed from the burden of earning God's favor, Christians are now able to love and serve their neighbors in thankful obedience.
