"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the free and sovereign states, bound in service to God and man, with liberty and justice for all," Sheena quoted out loud, reading from notes provided by her Subterranian and Quazarian sponsors.

Will responded by picking up his cell phone and texting.

"What are you doing?" asked Sheena.

Will raised his face and smiled. "I'm sending this pledge to my dad. As the governor of Texas, he'll have everyone in the state reciting it."

"I hope so," declared Sheena. "Especially considering that the other pledge was written by a socialist after the Civil War and included no reference to God."

Will shook his head. "I had no idea where that pledge came from, despite graduating from high school, college, and medical school. And I'd love to see the look on Dad's face when he searches Bellamy Salute on the internet and sees what children in our public schools looked like when they were first taught to pledge the American flag."
