According to the Puranas, Chandra, the Moon God, favored his wife Rohini over his other wives, angering their father, Daksha. As punishment, Daksha cursed Chandra to lose his brilliance. Desperate, Chandra sought the blessings of Lord Shiva, who softened the curse but could not remove it entirely.

As a result, the Moon would forever wane into darkness on Amavasya and then regain its radiance until Purnima—creating the eternal cycle of the New Moon and Full Moon that we witness to this day.

The young sage Markandeya was destined to die at the age of sixteen who was devoted worshipper of Lord Shiva, he spent his final moments praying before a Shiva Lingam. When Yama, the God of Death, arrived to claim his life, Markandeya embraced the Lingam and refused to leave. As Yama cast his noose, it accidentally fell around the Lingam as well. Enraged by this act, Lord Shiva emerged from the Lingam and confronted Yama. A fierce battle followed, and Shiva defeated Yama, saving Markandeya from death. This story symbolizes the power of devotion, faith, and the triumph of divine grace over death itself.

In Hindu mythology, this phrase usually refers to the story in which Sage Bhrigu curses Vishnu, leading to consequences such as Vishnu taking birth on Earth in human incarnations and experiencing separation from his wife in some traditions.

The story of king Bharata from the Bhagavata Purana reveals that the King Bharata once rescued a young deer whose mother had died. Bharata lovingly cared for the fawn, but gradually he became deeply attached to it. Instead of concentrating fully on meditation and devotion, his mind constantly worried about the deer.

At the time of his death, he was thinking about the deer, and according to the story, he was reborn as a deer in his next life because of that attachment. However, due to his previous spiritual progress, he retained awareness of his past life.

Later, he was reborn again as the sage Jada Bharata, who finally attained liberation.

The story of King Bharata comes from the Bhagavata Purana and is often told as a lesson about attachment and spiritual focus.

Prince Dhruv, the son of King Uttanapada, was deeply hurt after being insulted by his stepmother and ignored by his father. Determined to seek true respect and peace, he went to the forest and performed intense devotion to Lord Vishnu. Moved by his unwavering faith, Vishnu blessed him with immortality and placed him in the sky as the Pole Star — the Dhruv Tara, symbolizing steadfastness and devotion. ✨

Sangya was the wife of Surya, but she could not bear his intense heat. So she created her shadow form, Chhaya, to take her place and left for penance. Surya later discovered the truth, and his brightness was reduced so Sangya could return. Chhaya became the mother of Shani.

Vishnu worshipped Shiva with a thousand lotus flowers. To test his devotion, Shiva hid one flower. When Vishnu noticed one lotus missing, he offered his own eye — often called “lotus-eyed Vishnu” — in place of the final flower. Pleased by this supreme devotion, Shiva gifted him the powerful Sudarshan Chakra.
