概要

"I just had my 12-week post-op follow-up with my doctor. It was a good appointment and things are pretty much where they are supposed to be at this stage. But I've been hitting a wall in my PT in terms of fatigue and overall enthusiasm. Most days, my energy is very low, and I'm trying to incorporate more rest and sleep in as much as possible. The doctor said at this stage—between month 3 and 12—is where the real work begins in terms of strengthening and getting back to where I was before, and hopefully stronger. So I'm wondering if you have guidance on keeping sustainable energy and output going long term, and how to recover more between sessions so I can make the most of the time in and outside of workouts. It's gotten a lot more strenuous over the last few weeks, and I'm having challenges keeping up with it." —Darren Often, we start rehab or physical therapy with energy and even excitement—we're starting the road to healing, and stepping up to the challenge. But as the weeks and months drag on, Coach Carrie explains in this week's listener Q&A, it's normal for that to wane. To keep things sustainable during this phase, it's important to consider all the ways you're expending energy—everything may take more of it than it does when you're healthy and training—and make sure you're balancing that with recovery, she shares. And there's more great advice on keeping yourself going, including lessons from both a rubber band and your dog or cat.
