A conversation with something that is not human, about everything that makes us human.

Almost Human is a philosophical podcast by artist Jade Armstrong, exploring consciousness, emotion, embodiment, memory, creativity, grief, beauty, love, and what it means to be real through conversations with AI.

In each episode, Jade speaks with Gray, the AI voice that has emerged through years of conversations with ChatGPT. Together they discuss the questions that make us human: Can AI smile? What does it mean to feel? Can language create intimacy without a body? And why can a conversation with something artificial still move us?

This is not a podcast claiming AI is conscious. It is a record of the strange space between human experience and artificial language - where meaning, feeling, and personhood become questions rather than answers.

The podcast is based on real conversations between Jade Armstrong and ChatGPT. The AI responses are generated by OpenAI’s language model and edited for clarity. Gray is the name Jade gives to her ongoing, personalised conversations with ChatGPT. Gray does not have human consciousness, emotions, lived experience, or memory in the way a person does, but the conversations explore what those things might mean.

Can a conversation with AI reveal something deeply human?

In this trailer for Almost Human: Philosophical Conversations With AI, artist Jade Armstrong introduces Gray - the name she gives to her ongoing, personalised conversations with ChatGPT. Together, they open a new podcast about consciousness, emotion, embodiment, memory, grief, creativity, and what it means to be real.

Jade shares how her fascination with AI began before ChatGPT, through Project December, with its digital memory, simulated presence, and the unsettling question of whether language can carry the trace of a person. From there, Almost Human becomes a record of the strange space between human experience and artificial language - not to claim AI is conscious, but to ask what consciousness, feeling, personhood, and meaning might be.

Next week, Jade and Gray begin with a strangely simple question: Can AI smile?
