概要
You're performing. And everyone can tell.
In this episode, Maya and Malikiya dive into the uncomfortable truth about performing versus being authentic, and why so many of us have forgotten how to just be ourselves.
They break down how performing shows up in health, wealth, and everyday life: posting gym pics for the aesthetic but seeing no results, buying things you don't want because "that's the next step," spending 1.5 hours getting ready every day because you think you have to, and going into debt to maintain an image that wasn't even yours to begin with.
Here's what we talk about:
HEALTH & FITNESS PERFORMANCE
Why you've been in the gym for 4 months but still have the same physique. The difference between posting workout pics and actually putting in the work. How your body is built outside the gym (diet matters). Why not everyone needs high-intensity workouts, some of us just need to walk. Finding what works for YOUR body instead of copying what you see on social media.
THE SOCIAL MEDIA EPIDEMIC
How the algorithm has made performing a baseline expectation. Why scrolling constantly has taken away your ability to think for yourself. The pressure to keep up with what you're seeing, even when it's not part of your story. How FOMO makes you feel like something's wrong when nothing actually is.
LIFE TIMELINES & EXPECTATIONS
The pressure to have a house, kids, and marriage by 30. Buying things because "that's the next step", not because you actually want them. Why it's okay to not want what everyone else has. How everyone's path is different, and that's not a problem.
LIVING IN ANSWERED PRAYERS
How you're living in something you prayed for a few years ago (but now you're praying for more and feeling like you're behind). The reality of independence: "Mom, this is what the bills look like?!" Why what you have is BIG to somebody els, even if it feels small to you.
THE VALUE OF BEING AUTHENTIC
Somebody needs the REAL you, not the act you're putting on. The exhaustion of turning it on and off. Why being yourself gives you freedom. How someone out there feels like something is wrong with them because they can't find anyone else who acts like you do.
MOM LESSONS
How their moms taught them to be themselves by BEING themselves (no makeup, no eyebrows done, leaving the house "any kinda way"). Letting kids choose their own style (one daughter rocks Spider-Man shirts, the other is a girly-girl). Why molding kids into what YOU wanted robs them of finding who they're supposed to be.
THRIFT STORE WINS
How they had all the name brands in high school, from the thrift store. Finding deals at Ross while everyone else pays full price. Why you don't have to go into debt to look good.
This episode will make you rethink what you're doing because everyone else is doing it, and give you permission to just be yourself.
Stay tuned for Part 2 (because they didn't cover everything).
