  • From 300,000 Patients to 17 Reformulations: The Evolution of Macular Degeneration Care
    2026/06/06
Today's Ask the Dr. was an outstanding discussion focused on the natural management of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal health, healthy aging, and the latest advances in nutrition and photobiomodulation therapy. Joined by guest host Roger P. Schulman, we explored the growing body of evidence supporting the role of nutrition, lifestyle, weight management, exercise, and targeted supplementation in helping support retinal health and visual function. During the program, I shared insights gained from more than 300,000 patient encounters throughout my career, primarily caring for older adults affected by age-related macular degeneration and other retinal diseases. We discussed my involvement in DNA studies related to AMD, SpectraCell micronutrient testing, Omega Index research, and the BLAZE Study (Beta-Carotene, Lutein, Alpha-Carotene and Zeaxanthin Absorption Study), which demonstrated that beta-carotene can interfere with the absorption of lutein and zeaxanthin—two critical carotenoids for macular health. With academic training in psychology, physiological optics, optometry, and certification as a nutrition specialist, I explained how these experiences helped shape the development of Fortifeye Next Gen Macular Defense and Fortifeye Next Gen Zinc-Free Macular Defense. These formulations have evolved through 17 reformulations and continue to evolve as new scientific evidence emerges. My philosophy has always been that nutritional science is constantly advancing, and nutritional supplementation should advance with it. We also discussed the exciting field of photobiomodulation therapy for AMD, including the technologies currently offered by Alcon Valeda Light Therapy and MD Elite. Several callers shared positive experiences and testimonials regarding red light, yellow light, and near-infrared light therapy for retinal health. In addition, we announced that Fortifeye Fit Pro Ultimate Muscle Fuel is officially back in stock. We also reviewed the benefits of Fortifeye Fit Meal and Fortifeye Super Omega, emphasizing the importance of proper protein intake, omega-3 fatty acids, muscle preservation, healthy aging, and overall wellness. Finally, we announced that Lange Eye Institute is actively hiring as we continue our expansion, including opportunities at our current locations and our upcoming Ocala facility. Thank you to all of our listeners and callers who made today's program informative, engaging, and inspiring. Your questions, experiences, and testimonials continue to make Ask the Dr. one of the most interactive and educational health programs in America. #AskTheDr #DrMichaelLange #MacularDegeneration #AMD #EyeHealth #RetinaHealth #Fortifeye #NextGenMacularDefense #ZincFreeMacularDefense #Photobiomodulation #Valeda #MDElite #Lutein #Zeaxanthin #Omega3 #HealthyAging #Nutrition #Longevity #Protein #FitMeal #FitPro #SuperOmega #LangeEyeInstitute #Ocala #TheVillages #VisionHealthSupport the show: https://www.drmichaellange.com/category/ask-the-doctor/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  • Protecting Muscle & Health While Using GLP-1 Weight Loss drugs with Dr Lange & Dr Summerton
    2026/05/30
Protecting Muscle & Health While Using GLP-1 Weight Loss Medications with Dr. Michael Lange & Dr. Susan Summerton. On today’s edition of Ask the Dr, Dr. Michael Lange and Dr. Susan Summerton opened the show with exciting news about the continued expansion of the Lange brand. Dr. Lange announced that Lange Eye Institute is expanding into the Ocala area after purchasing the historic 1939 Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in Ocala, Florida. The iconic landmark is being transformed into the future home of Lange Eye Institute Ocala, a state-of-the-art eye care center that will feature some of the latest technology for diagnosing, treating, and managing eye disease and optimizing visual performance. The discussion also focused on the rapid growth and expansion of Fortifeye Vitamins and the company’s continued development of science-based nutritional supplements designed to help support total body wellness, muscle health, cognitive function, metabolism, and healthy aging. Dr. Lange and Dr. Summerton emphasized that one of the biggest nutritional mistakes many people make is failing to consume enough high-quality protein, especially at breakfast. Dr. Lange described his own breakfast from this morning, which included eggs, red bell peppers, mushrooms, pomegranate, and a nutrient-packed beverage made with spring water, chocolate Fortifeye Rejuvenate, Fortifeye Creapure® Creatine + myHMB® + Vitamin D, along with one Fortifeye Focus supplement. The doctors discussed how creatine and myHMB are not only important for muscle growth and strength, but also may play a major role in brain health, cognition, metabolism, recovery, and healthy aging. Dr. Lange explained the importance of using German-made Creapure® creatine, emphasizing that if a creatine supplement does not specifically say “Creapure®,” it typically originates from China. He discussed how Fortifeye’s formula combines creatine, myHMB®, and vitamin D in a synergistic ratio designed to maximize muscle protein synthesis, support fat metabolism, help combat myostatin activity, and optimize cognitive benefits. The conversation then shifted into GLP-1 medications and the growing concerns regarding potential side effects. Dr. Lange and Dr. Summerton discussed how some adverse events may not be solely caused by the medication itself, but may instead be related to underlying health conditions, dehydration, nutrient deficiencies, muscle wasting, and rapid weight loss. They discussed concerns such as sarcopenia, “Ozempic face,” dehydration, and even ischemic optic neuropathy. The doctors focused heavily on science-based strategies to combat the negative effects often associated with aggressive weight loss programs and GLP-1 drugs. They emphasized the importance of maintaining muscle mass through proper protein intake, resistance training, hydration, targeted nutritional supplementation, and consuming carbohydrates strategically — especially after workouts when muscles are primed to replenish glycogen stores and recover. Dr. Lange explained why carbohydrates are not the enemy and discussed the importance of post-workout carbohydrate intake for muscle recovery, hormone balance, metabolism, and performance. The doctors also discussed some of the potential negative consequences associated with long-term ketogenic dieting, chronic fasting, and excessive cold plunges when taken to extremes. They explained that many trends marketed as “healthy” may actually create hormonal imbalance, nutrient deficiencies, loss of muscle mass, metabolic slowdown, and accelerated aging if not approached correctly. The show also highlighted the concept of “skinny fat,” where individuals lose weight rapidly but also lose valuable muscle tissue, leaving them appearing frail, weak, wrinkled, and metabolically unhealthy. To combat this growing problem, Dr. Lange discussed the development of the Fortifeye Fit Transformation System, designed to help individuals lose unhealthy body fat while maintaining muscle mass, skin integrity, strength, and overall vitality. The program concluded with Dr. Lange announcing that the highly anticipated Fortifeye Fit Pro is finally back in stock and available again in two flavors after being on back order. This episode of Ask the Dr delivered a powerful message centered around science-based nutrition, muscle preservation, brain health, healthy aging, strategic supplementation, and the critical importance of adequate protein intake — especially for individuals using GLP-1 medications or following aggressive weight loss programs. #AskTheDr #DrMichaelLange #DrSusanSummerton #GLP1 #Ozempic #Protein #MuscleHealth #BrainHealth #Creatine #Creapure #myHMB #HealthyAging #WeightLoss #Fitness #Nutrition #Sarcopenia #OzempicFace #Fortifeye #FortifeyeFitPro #FortifeyeFitTransformationSystem #FortifeyeVitamins #EyeHealth #CognitiveHealth #Longevity #LangeEyeInstitute #Ocala #Wellness #Metabolism #WheyProtein #ScienceBasedNutritionSupport the show: https:/...
