  • Weekend Best Bets (feat. Manfred Man and the Ghost Runner)
    2026/04/10

The boys are back for Weekend Pickoff with an elite weekend of sport on deck, and yes, we actually get into the baseball. We kick off with the absolutely insane over Spoon hit right before we recorded… you’re going to want to hear that story.

Then Spoon throws out a genuinely interesting conundrum about the sheer number of hit-by-pitches we’re seeing around MLB right now, before we roll into the tips. Eric is doing the unthinkable and tipping against his beloved Blue Jays, Spoon’s hunting value with arms out of Cincinnati and Houston, and Rolsey briefly disappears into the ether when his internet decides it’s had enough.

We talk a few Masters bets to finish, then send you into the weekend properly.

  • #075 - A Japan No-Hitter, Walkoff HBP and the Pirates Are Fun Now?

The boys are back off the Easter long weekend to recap a massive few days of sport, then Eric takes us around the world as international leagues fire up. We hit a no-hitter in Japan, a KBO boom that is somehow happening while games get longer and a wild CPBL Opening Day finish in Taiwan.

Back in MLB, a couple of early red lights are flashing for the Giants and the Red Sox, Spoon takes a victory lap (politely), and we talk about how the NL Central already looks like a proper dogfight, including the sentence we did not expect to say this week: we're watching Pirates games on purpose.

We wrap with Spoon’s two plays for the midweek slate, Tuesday in the US and Wednesday morning in Australia, featuring Reds vs Marlins and Blue Jays vs Dodgers.

  • #074 - Murakami Mashes, ABS Breaks Bucknor, and Spoon's All-Time Heater
    2026/03/31

The boys are back together after an Opening Weekend that basically acted like it had somewhere to be. Eric’s driving back from the woods (as he tends to do) and catches the Blue Jays’ weekend on the radio, which somehow makes it feel even more dramatic. We break down one of the most unathletic plays we’ve ever seen from Chris Bassett, who is now officially a noted non-athlete, and Spoon provides a full forensic analysis of Bassett’s throwing form to home plate.

Then we get into the weekend’s ABS madness, including the game where C.B. Bucknor got overturned six times, because of course that happened in Week 1. The rookies went absolutely feral, and Spoon explains how the Rookie of the Year market has already flipped on its head thanks to one weekend of overreaction.

While we’re in the markets, we take a lap through early Cy Young and MVP chatter, including a guy named Mike Trout reminding everyone, loudly, that he’s still one of the best players on the planet.

We also dive into Munetaka Murakami’s explosion in Chicago and the real question. With that team-friendly deal, is he basically already a trade block conversation? Is that the whole point of the signing? Eric gives us the temperature check from Tokyo Swallows fans, and what the reaction has been like from Chicago and the US side.

We finish with Spoon’s picks for the Tuesday slate in North America (Wednesday in Australia), plus the story of Spoon’s all-time heater on Australian sport on Monday, a day he’s been waiting for his entire punting life. There’ll be an article coming to break it down properly.

  • Opening Weekend Best Bets (feat. Spoon’s doubles + Eric’s bonus play)
    2026/03/26

Baseball’s back, Opening Day’s here, and Spoon has arrived with a menu. We run through his best bets for Opening Weekend, and a strikeout look for Sandy Alcantara to kick things off for Miami.

Plus, Eric drops a bonus early-slate play with Tarik Skubal at juicy plus money, because if Detroit are favourites and Skubal deals, why not make it interesting?

Odds will move, books will disagree, and we’re not pretending to be wizards — this is for fun and discussion. Gamble responsibly.

  • Episode #073 - Spring, Ghosts, Netflix and MLB Opening Night
    2026/03/24

    News and more at baseballexpats.com

The boys are back with Opening Day upon us. Eric’s been flat-out, Spoon’s recovering from a big Sydney weekend, and I asked the question we all pretend we know the answer to: how much does spring training actually matter? We dug into the numbers and—shockingly—Eric was surprised (rare).

That snowballed into a chat about some of the weirder postseason formats around the world: Japan’s “ghost win” advantage in the NPB playoffs , the KBO’s step-ladder chaos where the higher seed gets a built-in edge , and the college baseball tournament bracket that looks like it was designed by a beautiful lunatic . Then we spiral into “if MLB expands again… what does October even look like?” Ghost wins? Play-ins? Don’t tempt us.

We wrap with a quick look at Opening Night: Yankees vs. Giants on Netflix, Spoon’s thoughts (not thrilled), and why the broadcast team is absolutely outrageous—Matt Vasgersian on the call, with CC Sabathia and Hunter Pence, plus a desk featuring Elle Duncan, Barry Bonds, Albert Pujols, and Anthony Rizzo.

Spoon closes it out with his best bet for Opening Night.
We’ll be back hours after the game to recap it, run our first Destiny Draft, and drop Spoon’s best tips for Opening Weekend.

  • #072 - Eric is Venezuelan? And which offseason signings will have the biggest impact?
    2026/03/19

We’re fresh off an absolute all-timer of a World Baseball Classic final… and it only took Eric about 30 seconds after the last out to announce he’s suddenly got Venezuelan roots. Shocking to nobody.

From there we get into what the WBC keeps proving over and over again: the world game is unreal, and MLB could learn a thing or two from the way the tournament builds drama — even if the league would never, ever copy the format for the postseason (which is a shame, because it’d be chaos in the best way).

Then we flip into Opening Day mode. With the season a week away, we run through a stack of offseason signings — some obvious, some sneaky — and debate which ones are actually going to matter once games start counting. By the end, we each plant our flag on the signing we think will have the biggest impact in 2026.

Next week: we preview the Yankees vs Giants Opening Day on Netflix, and we kick off our first Destiny Draft leading into the season.

  • #071 - WBC Musings & The Greatest Irish Pitcher of All Time
    2026/03/17

Eric, Rolsey and Spoon are finally back together — and there’s plenty to get into.

Eric shares a bit about his experience on the ground in Japan during the World Baseball Classic, before the boys zoom out and talk about what the tournament means for the global game as a whole. That naturally leads into a spirited debate about WBC eligibility rules, what they are, and what they probably should be.

From there, it’s a quick look ahead to the World Baseball Classic final between Venezuela and the United States, with thoughts on the matchup, the stakes, and what it says about where international baseball is headed.

In honour of St. Patrick’s Day, Rolsey tries to build a Team Ireland WBC roster… and quickly discovers that’s easier said than done. So instead, he introduces the lads to the greatest Irish-born pitcher in baseball history, along with some of the wonderfully weird Irish baseball history that came with him.

The boys also wrap with a few thoughts from spring training, what’s stood out so far, and why they’re all itching for Opening Day.

Don’t forget to like and subscribe, and stay tuned — more episodes are coming before MLB Opening Day, including our first Destiny Draft just before the season gets rolling.
