  • Everything in the Bible is not true
    2026/07/01

Everything recorded in the Bible is truthfully reported, but not every statement spoken by people in Scripture should be accepted as doctrine. The book of Job demonstrates this principle. Job and his friends made many sincere statements about God, yet God later rebuked their words as lacking understanding. By comparing Job's statements with the broader teaching of Scripture, we discover that Satan is the one who steals, kills, and destroys, while God is the giver of life, healing, mercy, and restoration. Job serves as an example of why biblical doctrine must be established from the whole counsel of Scripture rather than from isolated verses.

  • Should I do side projects?
    2026/06/30

In this excerpt from office hours, Pastor Amos suggests that entrepreneurs should go "straight at" their main vision rather than getting bogged down in smaller, secondary projects that require just as much energy as their primary business.

  • Study all sides before drawing a conclusion
    2026/06/30

Biblical truth is found by studying all of Scripture rather than building doctrine from a few isolated verses. At times, certain passages may seem to support an idea when read alone, but a broader study often reveals a different conclusion. The Bible's teaching on slavery illustrates this principle. While some passages instruct slaves on how to live within their circumstances, other passages reveal God's condemnation of man stealing, His desire for freedom, and His view of believers as brothers and sisters in Christ. By examining the full counsel of Scripture, we can better understand God's heart and avoid drawing conclusions based on only a portion of His Word.

  • The truth is found by studying in context
    2026/06/29

Biblical truth is discovered by studying Scripture in its proper context rather than building doctrine from isolated verses. Passages on remarriage after divorce and giving on the first day of the week illustrate this principle, showing that Paul was often addressing specific situations, offering pastoral counsel, or using examples to communicate broader spiritual truths. When these passages are read in their full context, it becomes clear that they should not automatically be treated as universal doctrines. Careful study of the surrounding verses, the author's intent, and the overall teaching of Scripture is essential for rightly understanding and applying God's Word.

  • Is the Proverbs 31 woman realistic?
    2026/06/25

In this Office Hours excerpt, Pastor Amos explains that Proverbs 31 offers a descriptive portrait—a mother's depiction of the kind of wife she desires for her son—rather than a prescriptive standard that every woman is expected to follow for all time.

  • The Bible Records Opinions
    2026/06/25

An important truth we must understand is that the Bible contains both direct commands from God and opinions from others. In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul carefully identifies when he is speaking by the Lord's command and when he is giving his own Spirit-guided judgment. This teaches us that not everything recorded in Scripture carries the same level of authority. While these opinions are inspired, wise, and profitable for our instruction, we must be careful not to elevate them to the level of a direct command from God. Recognizing this distinction helps us rightly divide the Word of truth and avoid turning opinions into doctrine.
