  • SFN Dad To Dad 436 - Jamie Bark of New Richmond, WI A Widower And Proud Father Of Two Daughters Including One With SMA.

    Our guest this week is Jamie Bark, of New Ricchmond, WI, a fire fighter, former owner of Value Auto Glass, a widower and father of two daughters, including one with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

    Jamie and his wife, Jackie, were married for 30 years, before she very sadly passed away in January of 2025 after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He is also the proud father of two daughters: Maddie (21) and Gabby (17) who has a type of Muscular Dystrophy known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) level 2.

    Jamie reflects on his life as a firefighter and private business owner, the struggles of raising a child with SMA, losing his wife to a debilitating disease and becoming a sole parent as well as the role Cure SMA and MDA have played on behalf of his family.

    Jamie's story speaks volumes about his commitment to family, perseverence and reslience all on this episode of the sFN Dad To Dad Podcast.

    Our guest this week is Rob Reider of Falmouth, ME a father of two and co-founder and executive director of the Sad Dads Club.

    Rob and his wife, Tehilah, have been married for 12 years and are the proud parents of two children: Dallas (6) who is autistic and Lila, who very sadly passed away in 2017 as the result of a still birth.

    Rob along with Chris Piasecki and Jay Tansey who also lost children to a still birth about the same time are co-founders of the Sad Dads Club, a global support community for fathers who have lost a child, helping them navigate life after loss by providing community and access to mental health services.

    While losing a child is conisdered a parent's worst nightmare, those involved with the Sad Dads Club find comfort in knowing they are not alone. It's a surprising uplifting story all on this episode of the SFN Dad To Dad Podcast.

    Brad and his wife, Caitlin, have been married for 22 years and are the proud parents of three children: Kyrie (18), Brooks (16) and Olivia (14) who was adopted from China, who has ADHD and microtia, a rare deformation of the ear.

    Caitlin is founder of Defend The Fatherless, a not for profit whose mission is: lessening the burdens of foster and adoptive families by meeting their physical, emotional, spiritual, educational and financial needs.

  • SFN Dad To Dad 433 - Jason Lopez of Bear, DE, Father of Three Including One With Regressive Down Syndrome Disorder (RDSD)

    Our guest this week is Jason Lopez of Bear, DE who is the Associate Director of Manufacturing in Delaware at SDIX, a bio-technology research firm and father of three including a daughter with Down Syndrome Regressive Disorder (DSRD).

    Jason and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 23 years and are the proud parents of three children: Kayleigh (29), Jason (20) and middle child Rebecca (22) who has DSRD.

    We learn about a rare form of Down Syndrome known as Regressive Down Syndrome Disorder (RDSD) a condition that occurs in some adolescents and young adults with Down Syndrome. Regression is used to describe the loss of skills an individual has previously learned. These skills can be daily living, language, movement, or social skills. The loss is often sudden and occurs over a period of weeks to months.

    We also learn about Jason's invovlement with D.A.D.S. (Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome) a national orgainization with chapters scattered across the country.

    It's an authentic and uplifting story about overcoming adversity and acceptance all on this episode of the SFN Dad To Dad Podcast.

  • SFN Dad To Dad 432 - Hubie Jones of Boston, MA A 92 Year Old Father of Eight & Iconic Civil Rights and Disability Advocate

    Our guest this week is Hubert Eugene 'Hubie' Jones, of Boston, MA. who has shaped and defined the civic and social landscape of Boston for more than forty-five years. He played a leadership role in the formation, building and rebuilding of at least thirty community organizations within Boston’s Black community and across all neighborhoods in the city.

    Hubie and his wife, Kathy, have been married for 68 years and are the proud parents of eight accomplished and college educated children and grandparents to 10.

    We learn about a handful of organizations that Hubie helped start, shape or was involved in, including: 1964 Roxbury Multiservice Center, Massachusetts Advocates for Children, City To City, Boston Children’s Choir, City Year, and W.K. Kellogg Foundation

  • SFN Dad To Dad 431 - Mike Durso of Philadelphia, PA SVP at Ping Identity, Father of Three Including One With a Rare Disease

    Our guest this week is Mike Durso of Philadelphia, PA who is a senior vice president at Ping Identity, a cyber security firm. Mike is the father of three children including one with a very rare disease who is also involved with martial arts.

    Mike and his wife, Mary, have been married for 21 years and are the proud parents of three children: daughters: Giuliana (19) and Mia (9) and son Dominic (17) who has a rare genetic condition known as RBN12 gene depletion, which has created global developmental delays

    We learn about some fascinating aspects Dominic's situation, his rare disease diagnosis, his schooling at Our Lady of Confidence (OLC) Catholic School, his involvement with Montgomery City Special Olympics, Tiger Schulmann's Martial Arts and the organization's Swing for the Stars program, a special event where individuals with disabilities step into the spotlight and go one-on-one with some of the gym’s top fighters. It’s more than an exhibition. It’s a night built on inclusion, awareness, and respect. Giving these special athletes an experience they’ll never forget.

    Mike has also helped start the Dominator Foundation, a charity committed to raising funds for student activities & scholarships so families facing financial hardship can send their children to OLC.

    Our guest this week is Nathan Simpson of Colorado Springs, CO an aircraft mission planner for the U.S. Air Force and father of nine children including one with tuberous sclerosis.

    Nathan and his wife, Stefanie, have been married for 19 years and are the proud parents of nine children ranging in age from 3 months to 17 years, including six year old Tevia, who has tuberous sclerosis.

    The family lives outside of Colorado Springs on a working farm, with all types of animals and Stefanie home schools the children. Nathan has also been a member of the SFN Matermind Group in Colorado.
