  • Don't Miss That--Radiology of why the lungs are so white? Blood, water, cells or pus!
    2026/06/29

When the lungs look "too white" on a chest X-ray, there are only a handful of major possibilities. In this episode of Don't Miss That Radiology we introduce a simple framework to approach pulmonary opacities by asking one key question:

Is it blood, water, cells, or pus?

    We'll cover

    • Pulmonary hemorrhage (blood)
    • Pulmonary edema (water)
    • Pulmonary neoplasms (cells)
    • Pneumonia (pus)

Practical imaging clues to help narrow the differential
A framework you can apply on exams and in clinical practice

We will also learn several signs including the silhouette sign, spine sign, air bronchogram sign, batwing sign and the marshmallow fluff sign

We'll finish it off with one of my favorite mnemonics for cavitary lesions. Spoiler alert the mnemonic is the word cavitys!!!

  • Don't Miss That--Chest X-Ray Emergencies
    2026/06/27

In this episode of Don't Miss That: Radiology 101 Podcast, we introduce the chest X-ray by focusing on some of the most important and potentially life-threatening findings every medical student, resident and clinician should recognize.

    Topics include

    • Misplaced lines and tubes
    • Pneumothorax
    • Pneumomediastinum
    • Fre subdiaphragmatic air
    • Pleural effusions

Rather than covering a complete chest X-ray interpretation method (coming soon), this episode highlights the critical emergencies that require immediate recognition. With July 1 and new interns starting, I thought this was timely. Learn practical radiology pearls that will help you identify these high yield findings with confidence.

Extra links and videos can be found on our Radiology 101 TikTok channel with QR codes at the end of the video. If you are looking for clinically relevant radiology education designed to help you on rotations, on exams and in patient care you have come to the right place.

Don’t Miss That Radiology ⭐ | Episode 1: The Law of Burps and Farts (Free Air Detection)

Welcome to Don’t Miss That Radiology — a fast, practical series designed to help medical students and residents recognize critical findings on imaging that you can’t afford to miss.

In this first episode, we break down the “Law of Burps and Farts” — a simple, memorable way to detect free air on imaging and avoid missing life-threatening diagnoses like perforation.

    We cover:
    • How to recognize free intraperitoneal air on imaging
    • Key radiographic signs of perforation
    • Why “don’t miss free air” is a critical emergency principle
    • Quick visual cues to build pattern recognition fast

    This episode is designed for:
    • Medical students
    • Radiology residents
    • Emergency medicine learners
    • Anyone preparing for boards or clinical rotations
