    The rain on the Neon Mile has that oil-slick shimmer tonight, the kind that makes the puddles look like they're buffering. Heavy Hearts is breathing slow — velvet booths, a bartender who pours like she's got all century, and a room full of passing ships angling for a port for the night. Down here we're in the low country, the slow country, where the bassline does the flirting for you. Tonight's set is a staircase: the Stones crack the door, Grace Jones holds it open, Madonna walks you to the booth, and then puts you in your place. Shygirl and Cobrah take you somewhere you probably shouldn't tell your mother about. Róisín plays the mirror, Kylie slows your pulse to a crawl, and SG Lewis sees you out into the wet neon. One night, eight tracks, no rush.
