Liz Allan is joined by Jane Lanceley, the Domestic Sales Manager, and Amy Howells, the Business Development Manager, from Herschel Infrared Heaters, for a refreshingly practical conversation about low-carbon heating and what it actually takes to make it work in the real world.

Together, they explore why heating is never a one-size-fits-all solution, from single rooms in domestic homes through to complex commercial environments and even historic buildings like churches. The discussion brings to life how understanding heat loss, insulation, and how a space is actually used is far more important than simply choosing a technology.

The conversation also touches on the role of policy, the need for broader recognition of alternative low-carbon technologies, and the flexibility now available through everything from simple thermostats to fully app-controlled systems.

    Quote of the Episode:
"We've got a huge amount of experience in heating all sorts of different applications… we can pretty much heat anything." Jane Lanceley

    Jane Lanceley Bio:

Her career has taken a varied, people-focused path, from working in HR to running a baby-signing franchise, and later moving into estate agency. She initially joined Herschel in an administrative role, but quickly found a natural fit speaking with customers about the product and its real-world applications. Over time, this evolved into a sales leadership role, in which she now combines technical expertise with a practical, customer-first approach.

    Amy Howells Bio:
Amy Howells brings a strong background in customer-facing roles across manufacturing and lighting. After studying sociology and criminology at university, Amy moved into sales and has built her career through a range of regional and business development roles. Liz and Ryan discuss how Southwark Council has built one of the UK's largest borough charging networks, with over 1,800 charge points already installed, largely through lamp-post charging solutions and concession partnerships. Ryan also explains why the council is now developing an owner-operator model, enabling the authority to keep charging affordable rates for residents and reinvesting revenue into the network.

    Quote of the Episode:

Episode 182: Liz Allan and Jamie Sands - Electric HGVs and Zero Emission Freight Made Commercial.

Liz Allan is joined by Jamie Sands, Head of Solutions at Welch Group, to explore what it will really take to decarbonise UK freight in a way that works commercially, not just on paper.

Jamie shares his journey from retail into logistics and explains how Welsh Group has used electrification as a springboard for wider innovation, from electric trucks and depot charging through to smarter use of operational data, and the emerging role of AI in reducing complexity across an already high-pressure sector.

Together, Liz and Jamie discuss why parts of the industry remain sceptical about EVs and net zero, and why Jamie believes the biggest issue is not the vehicles themselves but energy, specifically gaining real control over fuel costs for the first time in a century. They also get into the practical realities: grid connections, megawatt charging, driver breaks, the true total cost of ownership, and why communicating the opportunity to tens of thousands of operators remains one of the hardest challenges.

Jamie also introduces TwentyForty, an innovation ecosystem designed to help freight operators collaborate, access emerging solutions, and influence policy through real-world operational insight.
