Many of us have been conditioned to believe that if we want love, loyalty, or care, we must secure it through expectations, negotiations, and unspoken contracts or demands. We tighten our grip on the outcomes we desire in the hope of guaranteeing the experiences we most long for; but, the Catch 22 is that the more tightly we attempt to secure love, the more we risk draining it of the very aliveness that makes it feel meaningful.

When we turn people into something that must behave in a certain way, we may receive the action we demanded... but we lose the magic of someone choosing us freely.
