The Gospel today opens with a simple but deeply moving line: “When Jesus saw the crowds, His heart was moved with pity for them.” Jesus looks at people who are tired, searching, wounded, and wandering, and His heart breaks open with compassion. Not judgment. Not frustration. Compassion. And that compassion becomes the reason He calls the Twelve and sends them out. Before there is a mission, there is mercy. Before there is sending, there is seeing. Before the disciples do anything for Jesus, Jesus first sees them, loves them, and calls them.

Today we stand before the deepest mystery of our faith, the Blessed Trinity, one God in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Not a puzzle to be solved, but a mystery to be entered, a relationship to be embraced, a love to be received. At the heart of the Trinity is communion, a divine exchange of love so complete, so perfect, that it is not three gods, but one God. The Father pours Himself out in love to the Son; the Son returns that love to the Father; and the love between them is so real, so alive, that it is the Holy Spirit. The Trinity is not an abstract doctrine. It is the shape of God’s heart.
