Forecasting with Faye is a podcast about weather, forecasting, and what it’s actually like working in science. Hi I’m Faye, a meteorologist in my mid-to-late 20s working in the UK. From working in the field, dealing with office politics, long hours, and admin, I lost kind of started to lose my love of weather — so I’m making this podcast! Each episode I’ll share real weather stories, explain how forecasts actually work, and talk honestly about life as a scientist, with a bit of life chitchat along the way.faye.hulton 地球科学 科学

  • Paleoclimates (Part 2): Five Ancient Worlds That Changed Earth
    2026/06/11

In this episode of Forecasting with Faye, we continue our journey into Earth's climate history by exploring five of the most fascinating paleoclimates our planet has ever experienced.

From the Huronian Glaciation, when Earth may have become a giant snowball, to the Carboniferous Period with its giant insects and oxygen-rich atmosphere, we'll travel through hundreds of millions of years of climate history.

We'll also look at the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM), one of the most rapid natural warming events in Earth's history, the Azolla Event that may have helped cool the planet, and the Younger Dryas, a dramatic climate reversal that unfolded over just a few decades.

These ancient worlds reveal that Earth's climate has never been static. By studying them, scientists can better understand how our climate system works, how it responds to change, and what lessons the past may hold for the future.

  • How Do We Know Earth’s Past Climate? (Paleoclimates Part 1)
    2026/05/07

In this episode of Forecasting with Faye, I wanted to take a step back from day-to-day weather and look at the bigger picture: climate.

What actually is the difference between weather and climate? And how on Earth do we know what the climate was like thousands — or even millions — of years ago, long before we had any instruments?

In Part 1 of this series, I introduce paleoclimates (Earth’s ancient climates) and talk through the main reasons climate changes over time, from shifting continents to volcanic eruptions and even subtle changes in Earth’s orbit.

I also walk through how scientists piece together the past using natural clues like tree rings, ice cores, and sediment layers, and how these “proxies” allow us to reconstruct climates from deep time.

  • The Most Extreme Weather on Earth
    2026/04/09

In this episode of Forecasting with Faye, we explore the most extreme weather ever recorded on Earth.

From the highest and lowest temperatures ever measured, to record-breaking rainfall, powerful winds, giant hailstones and even extraordinary lightning events, we take a look at just how far the atmosphere can go.

Plus, in Weather Story of the Week, we dive into Storm Dave, looking at what weather the storm brought over the easter weekend!

If you’ve ever wondered how extreme weather can truly get, this episode is packed with some of the most incredible examples from around the world.
