• When Systems Learn to Listen
    2026/05/02

"Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream." Amos 5:24

Listening is not only a personal practice; it can and must be shaped in our organizations. Our everyday systems, schools, government, congregations, and organizations. What is true for individuals is also true for institutions.

But when systems stop listening and telling untruths, the consequences are serious! This reflects people and institutions alike. Continue to tell untruths and allow systems to follow this belief system; they do not become ineffective or outdated, they become unjust!

Amos envisioned justice that flows, not isolated or selfish acts yet ongoing reality truths—like water that flows continuously through the life of the community. When people and institutions refuse to listen, they become obstacles to the people they serve and they obstruct truths.

To hear is a responsibility; to listen is an invitation into the work of justice!

Before the police arrived, that altercation resulted in the man shooting the teen where he died on the scene.

  • The Seminal Wars of Florida. The resistance and relocating of the indigenous people
    2026/03/06

The Black Seminoles are one of the prominent Black American tribes whose history has been overlooked and suppressed, alongside other indigenous groups like the Gullah/Geechee and the Washitaw Nations.

The Black Seminoles are descendants of enslaved Africans who escaped plantations and allied with the Seminole Nation in Florida. They played a significant role in resisting slavery and fought in the Seminole Wars against the U.S. government. Their contributions to American history have often been downplayed, despite their significant resistance against oppression and their unique cultural heritage. Instead of becoming more Spanish, Florida increasingly became more "American."

    • An overview of all the Indigenous American peoples is presented in Indigenous Peoples of the Americas.
    • Discussions of various aspects of Indigenous American cultures may also be found in the following:
