Faith In Real Life | For The Record, Week 12

    Jason Gore, Lead Pastor

Description: What does mature faith look like when real life happens? (Not church life. Not Instagram life. Real life.) Life can change in an instant, but mature faith doesn’t disappear when life gets hard—it turns toward God and others. As we wrap up our time in the Book of James, we’ll discover that God calls His people to be a family that prays boldly, walks honestly, and pursues those who have wandered.

    James 5:13-20

    1. Bring Everything To God

    • When life hurts, pray.
    • When life is good, praise.
    • Either way, don't waste the moment.

    We pray because it matters.

    • Prayer reminds us that we are not in control. God is.
    • Prayer reminds us that we are not carrying this alone. God is with us.
    • Prayer reminds us that our hope is not in ourselves. Our hope is in Him.

Prayer and praise aren’t our last resort. They should be our first response.

Faith isn't believing God will do exactly what I want. Faith is believing God will do exactly what's best.

    2. Bring Your Struggles To God’s People.

Healing often begins where hiding ends.

Confess your sins to one another. Pray for one another.

    Discipleship happens in relationships.

    James 5:17-18

God doesn’t use perfect people. He uses dependent people.

    3. Bring Wandering People Back To Jesus.

James ends with people. Not projects. Not programs. People.

    James 19-20

Don’t give up on that person. Don’t criticize them. Don’t gossip about them. Instead, go after them. Pray for them. Love them. Pursue them. Invite them. That’s what Jesus has done for us.

    We are on mission.

Practical opportunities to be on mission:

    1. July 5 – Church is not canceled; it’s deployed.

Open your home. Open your table. Open your life. Let's not waste the opportunity.

    2. Invite someone to church.

Who do you know that is one invitation away from meeting Jesus?

    Isaiah 53:6

James’ final picture of mature faith:

    • People who pray.
    • People who are connected.
    • People who confess.
    • People who are on mission to restore.

For the record, mature faith isn't about having it all together. It's about continually turning toward Jesus—and helping others do the same.

    2026/05/11

Faith can sound convincing in words, but James asks a deeper question: is it alive? In this message, we explore the difference between claimed faith and living faith, the kind of faith that produces mercy, obedience, surrender, and love. From Abraham to Rahab, James shows us that real faith is not perfect, but it is visible. If faith alone saves, what does living faith actually look like?
