On this week’s episode of “Hanni and the ‘Hawks,” Brian sits down with former Jayhawk football player and legendary Kansas broadcaster, David Lawrence, to look back on his nearly 50 years behind the mic of Kansas Athletics.
The two talk about David’s original path to Kansas as a tight end and offensive lineman in the late 1970’s, and then how he got his big break as a broadcaster with Tom Hedrick in the early ‘80’s. Lawrence describes playing for Don Fambrough, the challenge of jugging both coaching and broadcasting ambitions and what’s ensued in a storied career of both.
David also relives some of his biggest moments on the mic and names off the favorite players and teams he’s covered in 45 years as the KU football color analyst, 26 years doing men’s basketball pre and postgame and nearly a decade of women’s basketball color analysis as well.
