 Are we all guilty of breaking the 2nd of God's 10 Commandments? “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments." Exodus 20:4-6 It's hard to argue otherwise. We create images and even MOTION pictures of things on this earth every day, and through social media it's only getting worse. Many may not realize they are creating idols, but what is the motivation of the heart when we post pictures of ourselves? What is happening to our hearts and minds when we watch worldly movies (motion pictures)? God wants us to be present in every moment, with whoever he brings before us, as anyone we pass on the street is our neighbor. Is our longing to cling to the past- memories of good times with family and friends lost, stripping us of our ability to be present today- and are we unconsciously creating idols that glorify someone or something other than God? Not many pastors or teachers will speak on this, but 1 John 2:27 says, "And as for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But just as His TRUE and genuine anointing teaches you about all things, so remain in Him as you have been taught."
