From a Japanese family who swapped the bright lights of Tokyo for country life in regional New South Wales, Taiyo Namba has become one of the driving forces behind Newcastle’s dining scene. Growing up between Japanese tradition and Australian culture, Taiyo helped turn Nagisa into one of the city’s most respected restaurants — blending authentic Japanese techniques with a modern Newcastle edge. Alongside his father Tetsuhiko, the family story stretches from farming life in regional NSW to building an award-winning restaurant empire on the Honeysuckle waterfront.
