Operating between 2010 and 2020 across the Banda and Chitrakoot districts, the couple produced over 2 lakh objectionable videos involving minors and sold them to buyers across 47 countries. The case came to light only after Interpol shared a tip with the CBI in October 2020, leading to the arrest of Ram Bhavan on November 17, 2020, and the subsequent arrest of his wife Durgawati for evidence tampering and witness intimidation.The CBI filed a 700-page chargesheet featuring testimonies from 74 individuals, including over 30 minor survivors, with victims ranging from 5 to 42 years of age. The couple was convicted under the Indian Penal Code, POCSO Act, and Information Technology Act for multiple serious offences including criminal conspiracy. The court declared the case as "rarest of rare," ruling out any possibility of reformation, and ordered compensation of ₹1 lakh each to 33 identified victims.
