I climbed until I reached the lone back window sill. I could barely make out the unmistakable but motionless shape on the floor.

We cleared the dogs away from the front door and moved in, our flashlights cutting through the stale air. As we reached the end of the first wall, my partner froze. Pale as a ghost—he just mouthed it to me:
