    In Episode 127, I check in on where things stand nine months after brain surgery, including a busy week of appointments with my neurologist, oncologist, and cardiologist. I talk about learning that I'm back in AFib, what that means moving forward, and the ongoing balancing act of managing health while still trying to work, exercise, create, and live life.

    The second half of the episode shifts into one of my favorite topics: movies. I rank the five horror filmmakers I'm most excited about right now who got their start on YouTube, including Markiplier (Iron Lung), Curry Barker (Obsession), and others. Along the way, I reflect on creativity, consistency, making things before you're ready, and why I think it's such an exciting time for independent filmmakers and storytellers.

  • JATG 123 - The "Got To Get To" Shift
    2026/05/05

    In this episode, I talk about a simple mindset shift I picked up from Hidden Brain - moving from “got to” to “get to.” It’s nothing revolutionary, but it’s been hitting me in a real way lately. Instead of dragging myself through obligations, I’m trying to see them as opportunities - whether that’s mowing the lawn, training clients, working on my comedy, or prepping for my Tumor Humor show on May 22nd at the Eugene Art House.

    I get into how this shift helps me stay more present, find more joy in the process, and even approach things I don’t love (like social media) with a little more purpose - especially when it’s tied to something bigger than me. I also share a couple stories from the week, including randomly spotting my 83-year-old client in the crowd at a show, and talk about how this mindset is shaping my comedy and how I show up in life.

    It’s not about pretending everything’s amazing - it’s about finding those small “get to” moments wherever you can.
