Mohini Singh's journey is a powerful reminder that success is about far more than titles and accomplishments.
After immigrating to Canada from India in the 1980s, Mohini struggled to find work, adapted to a completely new culture, and eventually built an award-winning career in journalism. What began as a passion for storytelling and helping others ultimately led her into public service, where she became the first person of color elected to Kelowna City Council.
Now serving her fourth term, Mohini reflects on leadership, community, diversity, values-based decision making, and what it truly means to create positive change.
In this conversation, we explore: • Moving to Canada and starting over • Overcoming early setbacks and uncertainty • Following your own path instead of others' expectations • Journalism as a vehicle for service • Representation, diversity, and belonging • Leadership and public service • Building stronger communities • Defining success through character and contribution
Mohini's story is ultimately one of courage, resilience, service, and the belief that real success is measured not by status, but by the impact we have on others.
