Cheer and Elisa are two curious people, especially when it comes to the uncertainty of fate.

As typical Gen Z kids, our campus lives collided with a pandemic, and our job searches collided with AI & Tech changes. Our lives seem to be constantly hit by uncertainty. To make sense of things, you have to open the black box, meet more interesting people, and see more sides of the narrative.

As Gen Z with so much external stimulus and distractions, this isn’t an easy age to navigate, but we don’t want to just go with the flow blindly, embrace everything without questioning the different dimensions of it. So. welcome to the podcast: Not a Stupidogenic Age.

Where it all began: the AI revolution swept through like a storm (at least it felt like it for people without the technical backgrounds). On a ordinary Sunday brunch, Cheer and I were sharing how we use AI to study, tell our fortunes, plan our diets and workouts… and mid-conversation, we realised AI has already woven itself so deeply into our lives, yet we know so little about it. How far has AI come, and where is it headed next?

So we wanted to find people to talk to from university professors working across AI disciplines, experts across their fields and entrepreneurs, because we recognise everyone's voices matter and, those who might be able to share perspectives on our core purposes:

  1. What kind of impact has AI and more broadly Tech had on your field. For better or for worse? How?

  2. For young people who want to enter this industry, what does the future of AI look like in this space?

  3. Looking back on your remarkable life journey (so far), what have you come to understand?

So… let’s sit down together for a truly rich and honest conversation.

  • Ep.2 with Dr. Giuseppe | UBS Head of Algorithmic Trading Research | How AI Is Reshaping Algo Trading
    2026/06/22

    Background

As aspiring professionals, the most unsettling news for us college students in the AI era, constantly spread on social media, is that “jobs will be replaced by AI” or that we’ll end up “underemployed.” With so many opinions flying around, being overly pessimistic or overly optimistic seems wrong. Before jumping to any conclusion, we need a solid understanding and enough knowledge to make our own judgments. That’s why Elisa and I decided to launch a series of interviews on each popular career field for graduates, gathering practical insights from seasoned practitioners and professors, in the hope of helping those of us who feel lost right now.

In this episode, we talk with Dr. Giuseppe Nuti about the impact of AI on algorithmic trading.

Dr. Giuseppe Nuti, currently Head of Algorithmic Trading Research at UBS Global Markets, responsible for algorithmic trading and adaptive execution strategies. He has over 18 years of trading experience, having worked at KCG and Citadel in high‑frequency trading, and has experience in interest rate options, swaps, and US and European government bond trading. During his PhD in computer science, his research focused on Markov Decision Processes. In addition, Dr. Nuti teaches at Cornell University.

    Episode Outline

    1. What is the real role of AI in algorithmic trading? Is it LLMs? Is it reinforcement learning?

    2. How does UBS’s algorithmic trading team select and execute projects?

    3. What are the risks and opportunities brought by the spread of AI agents for the future of quantitative trading?

    4. What is the biggest challenge in applying AI models to financial data processing?

    5. If Dr. Giuseppe could go back to his 20s, what would he tell his younger self?
