  • While they were Bond - Sean Connery in The Hill
    2026/06/07

Introducing our new stand of podcasts: While they were Bond.

In this new series we look at the film starring James Bond actors during their tenure as James Bond.

Our first episode focuses on Sidney Lumet's extraordinary and harrowing wartime prison drama, The Hill, starring Sean Connery who by 1965 was anxious to be cast in roles very different to 007. He certainly got his wish with this outstanding yet deeply controversial telling of life in a north African prison camp for British soldiers in World War 2.

  • I'll be your Huckleberry: Tombstone
    2026/04/06

The Action Movie Landfil is heading to Tombstone. AND HELL'S RIDING WITH US!

George P Cosmatos1993 western, retelling that great mythologised tale of the Gunfight at the OK Corral has been fished out of the landfill for full evaluation and appreciation.

Tombstone had a troubled production and there are elements that unravel sufficiently to deny it a place in one of the greatest westerns of all time. That said, our esteem for this film has few limits so if you're down in this movie then you best discard your red sash and head for the hills.

  • Oh my God, it's him! Enemy of the State
    2026/03/04
The Oddjob crew have emerged from the Action Movie Landfill clutching another nineties classic. Enemy of the State (1998) is a Washington DC political thriller about a rogue cell within the NSA who are on the hunt for a lawyer who has accidentally come into possession of a tape that incriminates a senior NSA figure (Jon Voight) in the murder of a senator.

The film's principle theme is about the politics of surveillance and the limits of personal freedom in a democracy. The film co-stars Gene Hackman who also starred in a similarly themed film called The Conversation (1974) and there are direct call-backs to this film in Enemy of the State

The film also boasts one of the greatest cameo appearances in the history of cinema.

  • AML: The Master Of The Podcast Rope-A-Dope
    2025/08/30

Gary, Terry, and Graham are back with another edition of Action Movie Landfill. This time, Gary has dragged out John Woo’s 1996 nuclear heist thriller, Broken Arrow.

Woo arrived in Hollywood with a reputation for high-octane Hong Kong action movies, and just a year later he’d cement his legacy with the classic Face/Off, once again teaming up with John Travolta. But how much does Broken Arrow serve as a warm-up for Face/Off — or is the stronger link to screenwriter Graham Yost, the man who wrote the script for Speed?

For just over an hour, the gang rummage through desert chases, pantomime villainy, Hans Zimmer guitar riffs, and the question of whether this film belongs in the landfill.
