There seems to have been a lot of things going on the in thearchery world in recent weeks, from archery shops going into administration, the government plans for limiting crossbows in the UK. Me tinkering with barebow and trying out some new arrows from Skylon (edge 6.2) along with a couple ofpodcast suggestions.

Firstly, though a bit of promotion for the Briar Rose fieldArchery annual shoot on the 19th of July and we have people already booked on.It's open to all NFAS archers and all styles, sadly no dogs though. It would have been nice to avoid the same weekend as the Welsh champs but this was the only date our land owner allowed us. I’ve recorded this episode of the podcast as a video on mythoughts on the National Field Archery Society championship faces (NFAS). For those that don’t know NFAS produce a selection of target faces specifically designed for the big game round used at clubs across the country and at theNational Championships in September.

In this video I cover the positive and negative points and provide my thoughts specifically the mess version we use at our club. We have been using these styles of faces for a couple of years and in our experience they work pretty well, especially in wet conditions but there are a couple ofnegative areas where they could be improved.

There are currently 80 target faces, 20 per group, whichmeans you could set 2 full 40 target courses and not repeat a face.

Welcome to the first podcast of 2026, crazy to think we arealready in February. I hope 2026 is treating you well and any new year resolutions you made are still going well.

I will admit to having a bit of a rant at the start of this episode concerning the appalling service we have received from TUI airlines following our long flight delay when returning home. After everything that happened end of last year we decided to book a ski holiday, which was fantastic but the flight home was delayed for hours.

Anyway lets change the subject to more archery related. Inthe episode I give my thoughts on the proposals that have been sent out to NFAS members for voting on this yearconcerning rule changes. Some of which I like others of which I am less keen on.

Welcome to the last podcast of 2025. It’s crazy to think 2025is almost over.

In this episode I am joined by Chris Mussell who is a scoutleader and archer, where we have a long conversation about the role archery has in the scouting organisation in the UK. Discussing not just coaching scouts of all ages in archery in all forms from soft archery to shooting a simple field course, but also what is involved with training the scout leaders in the what’s required to run a session for scouts.
