The library was renamed in honor of Cynthia Graham Hurd, Patrice’s late mentor and best friend, who tragically lost her life in the 2015 Emanuel AME Church shooting. Cynthia took Patrice under her wing early in her library career, leaving behind a legacy of service, literacy, and compassion that continues to inspire Patrice’s work today.Through her role at the library, Patrice does more than recommend books.
