Continuing the previous conversation (about SOZO) we outline TWO MORE things Jesus provides…

    🧩 A new pattern

    ⚙️ A new purpose

Both are linked to SOZO, to total salvation and redemption…

    🍀

So what do they mean together?

    Quite simply this…

… we’ve been pulled OUT of the old pattern and placed into a new pursuit of purpose.

    👇

And, we don’t merely look to the “proof” of God’s blessings in tangible ways (only) we seek His presence…

… knowing that the blessings come…

… and come not only for the benefit of ourselves BUT ALSO for the benefit of others.

    2026/05/06

When the New Testament speaks of being “saved,” it refers to far more than how we usually define the issue. Whereas we generally denote “saved” as the forgiveness of sins, the New Testament authors ( in fact, it’s “red letter,” so it’s taught be Jesus Himself), use the word SOZO, which means—

    🙏 forgiveness

    🛟 physical projection

    ⛓️‍💥 freedom from demonic oppression

    ❤️‍🩹 physical healing

    🪦 raising the dead

    — and more.

Or, to say it another way, SOZO denotes the total coming of the complete Kingdom of God.

    💥

In this episode we talk about the pivotal role John the Baptist played (the last and greatest of the old covenant prophets), comparing his position with what Jesus proposed to be available now…

… and we walk though several stories from the book of Luke where Jesus not only DISCUSSES the message of the Kingdom but also DEMONSTRATES its manifestations.

  • 41 | 🤷‍♂️ PTSD or Moral Injury?
    2026/04/29

Michael Belton asked me to talk about Moral Injury… a “lesser known” (but probably “more lethal”) invisible wound than PTSD.

So, we compare and contrast PTSD with Moral Injury to set the stage.

    Here’s the core of it

Moral Injury feels different, because Moral Injury starts differently than PTSD. Whereas PTSD is a response to external “triggers” (you can remove yourself from the situation or avoid certain scenarios) Moral Injury goes with you. Moral Injury IS you.

You’ve probably heard the saying "Wherever you go, there you are.” When the issue is “in you” (i.e., your conscience, your spirit), you can’t fight it or run from it.

    Key differences

Note the key distinctions between the PTSD and Moral Injury:

    💥PTSD

    • Is a reaction to external threats
    • Takes the form of fight, flight, freeze, or fawn
    • Generally occurs when triggered

    🫣 Moral Injury

    • Is a response to internal “threats”
    • Takes the form of guilt & shame
    • May be constant— not just when triggered

Again, Moral Injury is not PTSD, and PTSD is not Moral Injury.

    Why it matters

You must heal the KIND of hurt you have.

If you don’t identify the kind of hurt you have and also implement the correct healing protocols for that specific wound, then—

    • The healing protocol will be ineffective
    • The hurt will remain
    • The injured person may feel “un-heal-able”
    • The injured person may reach the point of despair and “give up”

For clarity, even though every “part” of you impacts the others (interdependent realization), hurts generally occur in the ways listed above. If multiple types of hurts are present, we must address each of them in their own way.

  • 40 | 💡 Your story of struggle + search (and solution) helps others find healing, too
    2026/04/22

We’re often (understandably) anxious about revealing our “true selves” to the people around us. When we do, though, the promises of 1 John 1:7-9 manifest (connection and cleansing).

    Notice—

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

It’s hard to walk in the light, though.

    ⭐️

Jim and Sarah recently shared their story of “walking in the light” with Beth and me while we were visiting them.

They saw the truth of walking into the light firsthand. They experienced it.

Whereas we fear people will consider us weak…

… they consider us even stronger.

Whereas we think they will push us away…

… they come closer & we experience true connection + cleansing.

    ⭐️

Let’s define waking in the light, though…

… because our culture has a tendency to over-share on social media ALONG WITH an epidemic of loneliness (no one close to us to share with).

“Walking into the light" doesn’t mean you broadcast your hurts to everyone, everywhere. Rather, it entails entrusting your story to those who “have your six.”

Think of it as concentric circles…

✅ A few people get to share all of your story, your struggles, your hurts, and more. They are your safe place. This should include your spouse / significant other and some close friends.

🟠 Some people get to hear “most” of your story.

🤷‍♂️ Many people get to hear “some” of your story.

❌ Most people get none of it.

    See the differences?

    ⭐️

When done in the right way, our stories of struggle + search + solution… they lead to freedom for us AND healing for others, as well.

    2026/04/15

Our friends Jim & Sarah have an interesting approach to date night: Make love first.

Here are a few reasons why:

It removes the build-up and the pressure.

    You’re energetic and excited.

And it sets the tone for the rest of the night.

Plus, you can always “go back for more” if you want.

    🤷‍♂️

Sarah is a licensed counselor and Jim leads a men’s ministry…

AND, they lead married couples groups, workshops, and more TOGETHER.

In fact, long-term, they’re created a retreat center where couples can reconnect and reignite something special (or, nurture what’s already thriving).

Maybe- just maybe— they’re onto something.

  • 38 | 💀 What's behind suicide?
    2026/04/08

I’ve been wrestling with a theory for a few years now— the more I’ve studied PTSD and Moral Injury.

    👇

Here’s the hypothesis: the suicide epidemic is related to Moral Injury primarily— not PTSD.

    👆

For sure, PTSD may play a role…

… but, it’s important to figure this out.

If we’re looking at the WRONG CAUSE, then we’ll create the wrong cure.

And if we create the wrong CURE, we’ll provide a solution that’s largely ineffective.

    💔

Here’s the basis for my theory….

The majority of military suicides occur after the age of 50. Or, to say it another way, time doesn’t heal all wounds— some get more intense. Let me explain…

PTSD symptoms may lesson over time (you learn to cope with the triggers, you find tools that help you navigate life, and/or you adjust). You learn to read + recognize + respond to stressors in healthy ways.

At the same time, the guilt & shame of Moral Injury seem to GROW if not addressed.

Moreover, while they are raising their families, the responsibilities they feel for their families actually keeps many who contemplate suicide from acting upon it.

  • 37 | 💣 Choosing Unhealth?
    2026/04/01

Two things which occur when an event “marks” you…

    1️⃣ Stored

The event is stored regardless of your awareness of it in the moment.

    2️⃣ Stamped

The stored data includes all of your five senses.

Note, this “stored and stamped” happens for every “elevated” and memorable event— and is why certain sounds (songs) and smells (even seasonal shifts) create instant recall of good memories.

It’s why we begin to not only feel as if we’re back in the same space, but we recall— without trying to think about it— happenings of those moments. And it’s why we begin anticipating and even behaving in similar ways.

Now, let’s add another layer to it…

Memories aren’t just stamped & stored in your brain, they’re stamped and storied IN YOUR BODY.

Or, to say it the same way a popular book does, “The BODY keeps the score.”

    And that leads to this…

… sometimes, a “flare up” in the body isn’t just a physical issue, it’s a soul-issue. It’s your body telling you that you have unfinished business to deal with.

In the same way a check engine light tells you that something is happening in your vehicle, these “check engine lights” alert us to something in the soul.

    The problem is two-fold…

1️⃣ We often “cover” these alerts instead of addressing the deeper issues.

    2️⃣ We sometimes “cause” them…

  • 36 | ❤️‍🩹 Two kinds of healing
    2026/03/25

Sometimes, healing happens instantly. Other times, it occurs over time as people how to be well.

Or, to say it another way... sometimes, Jesus touches us and we are dramatically changed in that moment. Other times, He imparts His wisdom to us so that we can “walk out” the freedom.

    ⭐️

Now, think about what this really means, practically. Let’s move it from theory to real life:

👉 Jesus can heal lung cancer, but He can also teach us about the ills of smoking.

👉 He can cure diabetes. He also shows us how to eat better.

👉 He can heal sexually transmitted diseases. He also provides us with directions on how to live whole and healthy lives, as well as experience the joy of true intimacy with one person.

👉 He can heal us of the dozens of physical nuisances that we’ve grown to tolerate. Or, we can take His directions and experience what it really means to be alive!

    ⭐️

As far as it relates to emotional wholeness…

… and overcoming the effects of PTSD and Moral Injury

It’s possible— and even highly probable— you’ll find healing through the process of walking it out. Too many people wait to get struck by lightning, that is, for a supernatural event to occur that suddenly becomes their breakthrough.

    What if that doesn’t happen?

    Is all hope vanquished?

Of course not. We can still therapeuo our way there. We can claim our freedom and begin the process of sorting life and fighting for wholeness.

    ⭐️

When I’m teaching these concepts from a stage— or in an online forum— I often express it like this, “Healing is something God does and health is something we do. Both work together.”

For sure, this is a simplistic definition. But, it helps us get on the “same page,” so we can understand what we’re talking about.

Notice how the two work together, long-term.

💥 If the iaomai / miracle happens, we want to walk it out with therapeuo / intentionality.

❤️‍🩹 Therapeuo / intentionality can, over time, reap the same results as a miracle / iaomai.

I’ve taught this concept in several churches and used the following phrase to summarize the concept: “Miracle or no miracle, healing happens now.”
