    15th Sunday in Ordinary Time ReadingsA Reading from the Book of Isaiah Thus says the LORD: Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; my word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it. The Word of the Lord   Responsorial Psalm The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest You have visited the land and watered it; greatly have you enriched it. God's watercourses are filled; you have prepared the grain. The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest Thus have you prepared the land: drenching its furrows, breaking up its clods, Softening it with showers, blessing its yield. The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvestYou have crowned the year with your bounty, and your paths overflow with a rich harvest; The untilled meadows overflow with it, and rejoicing clothes the hills. The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest The fields are garmented with flocks and the valleys blanketed with grain. They shout and sing for joy. The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest.   A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans Brothers and sisters: I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us. For creation awaits with eager expectation the revelation of the children of God; for creation was made subject to futility, not of its own accord but because of the one who subjected it, in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now; and not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. The Word of the Lord   A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to Matthew On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore.  And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow.  And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up.  Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil.  It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots.  Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it.  But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear.” The disciples approached him and said, “Why do you speak to them in parables?”  He said to them in reply, “Because knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted.  To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away.  This is why I speak to them in parables, because they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand.  Isaiah's prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says: You shall indeed hear but not understand, you shall indeed look but never see. Gross is the heart of this people, they will hardly hear with their ears, they have closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their hearts and be converted, and I heal them.  “But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear.  Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it. "Hear then the parable of the sower. The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away what was sown in his heart. The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy.  But he has no root and lasts only for a time.  When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away.  The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit.  But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.” The Gospel of the Lord

    14th Sunday in Ordinary Time Readings

    A reading from the Book of Zechariah

    Thus says the LORD: Rejoice heartily, O daughter Zion, shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem!
    See, your king shall come to you; a just savior is he, meek, and riding on an ass, on a colt, the foal of an ass. He shall banish the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem; the warrior's bow shall be banished, and he shall proclaim peace to the nations. His dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

    The Word of the Lord

    Responsorial Psalm

    I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God

    I will extol you, O my God and King,
    and I will bless your name forever and ever.
    Every day will I bless you,
    and I will praise your name forever and ever.

    I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God

    The LORD is gracious and merciful,
    slow to anger and of great kindness.
    The LORD is good to all
    and compassionate toward all his works.

    I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God

    Let all your works give you thanks, O LORD,
    and let your faithful ones bless you.
    Let them discourse of the glory of your kingdom
    and speak of your might.

    I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God

    The LORD is faithful in all his words
    and holy in all his works.
    The LORD lifts up all who are falling
    and raises up all who are bowed down.

    I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God

    A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans

    Brothers and sisters: You are not in the flesh; on the contrary, you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also, through his Spirit that dwells in you. Consequently, brothers and sisters, we are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body,
    you will live.

    The Word of the Lord

    A Reading from the Holy Gospel Accordng to Matthew

    At that time Jesus exclaimed: "I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones.
    Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son
    and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him."

    "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.
    For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."

    A Reading from the Second Book of Kings

    One day Elisha came to Shunem, where there was a woman of influence, who urged him to dine with her. Afterward, whenever he passed by, he used to stop there to dine. So she said to her husband, “I know that Elisha is a holy man of God. Since he visits us often, let us arrange a little room on the roof and furnish it for him with a bed, table, chair, and lamp, so that when he comes to us he can stay there.” Sometime later Elisha arrived and stayed in the room overnight.Later Elisha asked, “Can something be done for her?” His servant Gehazi answered, “Yes! She has no son, and her husband is getting on in years.” Elisha said, “Call her.” When the woman had been called and stood at the door, Elisha promised, “This time next year you will be fondling a baby son.”

    Thanks be to God

    Responsorial Psalm

    R. Forever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

    The promises of the LORD I will sing forever,
    through all generations my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness.
    For you have said, “My kindness is established forever;”
    in heaven you have confirmed your faithfulness.

    R. Forever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

    Blessed the people who know the joyful shout;
    in the light of your countenance, O LORD, they walk.
    At your name they rejoice all the day,
    and through your justice they are exalted.

    R. Forever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

    You are the splendor of their strength,
    and by your favor our horn is exalted.
    For to the LORD belongs our shield,
    and the Holy One of Israel, our king.

    R. Forever I will sing the goodness of the

    A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans

    Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God. Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus.

    The Word of the Lord

    A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to Matthew

    Jesus said to his apostles: “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me,
    and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.""Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because the little one is a disciple— amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”

    A Reading from the Book of Jeremiah

    Jeremiah said: "I hear the whisperings of many: 'Terror on every side! Denounce! let us denounce him!' All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine. 'Perhaps he will be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.' But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph. In their failure they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion. O LORD of hosts, you who test the just,
    who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you I have entrusted my cause. Sing to the LORD, praise the LORD, for he has rescued the life of the poor from the power of the wicked!"

    The Word of the Lord

    Responsorial Psalm

    R. Lord, in your great love, answer me.
    For your sake I bear insult,
    and shame covers my face.
    I have become an outcast to my brothers,
    a stranger to my mother's children,
    Because zeal for your house consumes me,
    and the insults of those who blaspheme you fall upon me.

    R. Lord, in your great love, answer me.
    I pray to you, O LORD,
    for the time of your favor, O God!
    In your great kindness answer me
    with your constant help.
    Answer me, O LORD, for bounteous is your kindness;
    in your great mercy turn toward me.

    R. Lord, in your great love, answer me.
    "See, you lowly ones, and be glad;
    you who seek God, may your hearts revive!
    For the LORD hears the poor,
    and his own who are in bonds he spurns not.
    Let the heavens and the earth praise him,
    the seas and whatever moves in them!''

    R. Lord, in your great love, answer me.

    A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans

    Brothers and sisters: Through one man sin entered the world, and through sin, death, and thus death came to all men, inasmuch as all sinned— for up to the time of the law, sin was in the world,
    though sin is not accounted when there is no law. But death reigned from Adam to Moses,
    even over those who did not sin after the pattern of the trespass of Adam, who is the type of the one who was to come. But the gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, how much more did the grace of God and the gracious gift of the one man Jesus Christ overflow for the many.

    The Word of the Lord

    A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to Matthew

    Jesus said to the Twelve: "Fear no one. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
    Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father."

    A Reading from the Book of Exodus

    In those days, the Israelites came to the desert of Sinai and pitched camp. While Israel was encamped here in front of the mountain, Moses went up the mountain to God. Then the LORD called to him and said, “Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob; tell the Israelites: You have seen for yourselves how I treated the Egyptians and how I bore you up on eagle wings and brought you here to myself. Therefore, if you hearken to my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my special possession, dearer to me than all other people, though all the earth is mine.
    You shall be to me a kingdom of priests, a holy nation.”

    The Word of the Lord

    Responsorial Psalm

    R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock
    .
    Sing joyfully to the LORD, all you lands;
    serve the LORD with gladness;
    come before him with joyful song.

    R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock.

    Know that the LORD is God;
    he made us, his we are;
    his people, the flock he tends.

    R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock.

    The LORD is good:
    his kindness endures forever,
    and his faithfulness to all generations.

    R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock.

    A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans

    Brothers and sisters: Christ, while we were still helpless, yet died at the appointed time for the ungodly. Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. How much more then, since we are now justified by his blood,
    will we be saved through him from the wrath. Indeed, if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, once reconciled, will we be saved by his life. Not only that, but we also boast of God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
    through whom we have now received reconciliation.

    The Word of the Lord

    A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to Mark

    At the sight of the crowds, Jesus’ heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”Then he summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits
    to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness. The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus; Simon from Cana, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus, “Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town.
    Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons.
    Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.”

    A Reading from the Book of Deuteronomy

    Moses said to the people: "Remember how for forty years now the LORD, your God, has directed all your journeying in the desert, so as to test you by affliction and find out whether or not it was your intention to keep his commandments. He therefore let you be afflicted with hunger, and then fed you with manna, a food unknown to you and your fathers, in order to show you that not by bread alone does one live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the LORD.

    "Do not forget the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery;
    who guided you through the vast and terrible desert with its saraph serpents and scorpions, its parched and waterless ground; who brought forth water for you from the flinty rock and fed you in the desert with manna, a food unknown to your fathers."

    Thanks be to God

    Responsorial Psalm

    Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.

    Glorify the LORD, O Jerusalem;
    praise your God, O Zion.
    For he has strengthened the bars of your gates;
    he has blessed your children within you.

    R. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.

    He has granted peace in your borders;
    with the best of wheat he fills you.
    He sends forth his command to the earth;
    swiftly runs his word!

    R. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.

    He has proclaimed his word to Jacob,
    his statutes and his ordinances to Israel.
    He has not done thus for any other nation;
    his ordinances he has not made known to them. Alleluia.

    R. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.

    A Reading from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians

    Brothers and sisters: The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.

    The Word of the Lord

    A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to John

    Jesus said to the Jewish crowds: "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."

    The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
    Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever."

    Holy Trinity Sunday

    A Reading from the Book of Exodus

    Early in the morning Moses went up Mount Sinai as the LORD had commanded him,
    taking along the two stone tablets. Having come down in a cloud, the LORD stood with Moses there and proclaimed his name, "LORD." Thus the LORD passed before him and cried out, "The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity."
    Moses at once bowed down to the ground in worship. Then he said, "If I find favor with you, O Lord, do come along in our company. This is indeed a stiff-necked people; yet pardon our wickedness and sins, and receive us as your own."

    Thanks be to God

    Responsorial Psalm

    Glory and praise for ever!

    Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers,
    praiseworthy and exalted above all forever;
    And blessed is your holy and glorious name,
    praiseworthy and exalted above all for all ages.

    R. Glory and praise for ever!

    Blessed are you in the temple of your holy glory,
    praiseworthy and glorious above all forever.

    R. Glory and praise for ever!

    Blessed are you on the throne of your kingdom,
    praiseworthy and exalted above all forever.

    R. Glory and praise for ever!

    Blessed are you who look into the depths
    from your throne upon the cherubim,
    praiseworthy and exalted above all forever.

    R. Glory and praise for ever!

    A Reading from the Second Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians

    Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.
    All the holy ones greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.

    The Word of the Lord

    A Reading from the Holy Gospel Accoridng to John

    God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
