Join us for the ninth episode of Bristol Data Stories, where we talk to Sam Gunner, a Senior Research Associate in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol. Sam’s research supports urban stakeholders to make better, more data-driven decisions, hoping to improve the real-world impact of academic research. In this episode, we discuss collecting pollution data via city sensors, accessing urban mobility data through e-scooter journeys, and Sam's previous work in industry. We also discuss systems thinking and the importance of applying this approach to real-World issues.

Bristol Data Stories is a podcast series by the Jean Golding Institute (JGI). This podcast series explores the personal research journeys of our guests and the diversity of research projects they've worked on. In each episode, we talk about what inspires them to pursue their work, the challenges they face, and the advice they have for aspiring researchers. Our hosts for this episode were Madlen Williams, JGI Senior Executive Assistant, and Isabelle Lawrie-Halton, Turing Liaison Manager. If you have any ideas for guests you’d like to hear from, or topics we should discuss, we’d love to hear from you.
