概要

Where do you imagine when I ask you to think of something blue? Maybe it's an ocean, a river or a lake, maybe it's the feeling you get when you take a sip of water, or the calmness in your mind as you sit at the water's edge. Water is there for every chapter of our lives, and in this podcast, we'll be discovering the untold stories of our love affair with water. I'll be inviting guests to share their something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue, as we dive into the realm of all things water and take a moment to appreciate the truly wonderful nature of blue spaces.

  • Spark the "Why" Questions: Ele Powell, Zookeeper at West Midlands Safari Park
    2026/04/08

In today's episode, I'm chatting with Ele Powell, Zookeeper at West Midlands Safari Park. After growing up in the same landlocked town, Ele and I met for the first time during our studies at Newcastle University. From the origins of our friendship that began through a shared love for the ocean, I quickly came to know Ele as the determined shore explorer, most in her element while rooting around in the rockpools.

Something Old: Walls of shells decorating houses by the beach in Jersey, Channel Islands

Something New: AI mapping of fishing areas, coral bleaching and 3D printing to create artificial reefs for coral restoration

Something Borrowed: The oxygen we borrow from the ocean to breathe

Something Blue: As a child, the stream at the end of the garden and the crayfish that lived there. As an adult, exploring a new place by the sea every year
