  • Maria Teresa Kumar on Voto Latino & The Power of the Latino Vote
    2026/07/14

We start today’s episode reflecting on how we are feeling after the murder of a father, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, by ICE. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was a hard-working family man who wanted nothing else in life but to provide for his wife and see his sons become great people, as his son Ronaldo Salgado shared in a heartbreaking video. We reflect on this moment and what it calls us to do.

Next, we welcome Maria Teresa Kumar, President and Co-Founder of Voto Latino, to discuss the critical importance of political engagement within the Latino community. She shares her personal "why" for co-founding Voto Latino, a civic organization dedicated to empowering young Latinos by registering them to vote and providing them with critical information to maximize their political power. The conversation centers on navigating current community trauma and voter suppression, urging the next generation to recognize their collective power.

We also mention that our friends at Donuts y Tortas are hosting an event in Anaheim on Friday, August 14 starting at 6 pm. The event is an intimate fireside chat with Atalie Oliva, founder of The Bitter Woman Network, along with the debut of a Donuts y Tortas original mini documentary diving into the story behind the network and the journey that inspired it, and more surprises yet to be revealed. Get the details and tickets here and at donasytortas on Instagram.

  • Tamarindo Turns 10 Plus Karen y Los Remedios
    2026/03/03

On this special 10th Anniversary edition of Tamarindo, we first reflect on a decade of centering Latine voices, our culture, and our commitment to inclusion. We look back at what it was like to record the first episode and how Tamarindo has evolved to so much more than a podcast. For this special occasion, Delsy and I recorded in her home and you’ll hear Delsy’s 7-month old baby in the background who didn’t want to miss the action.

After that, we chat with Karen Gonzalez from Karen y los Remedios, a band known for blending traditional cumbia with electronic, trip-hop, and lo-fi textures. This interview was just ahead of their intimate performance right here in Lincoln Heights, blocks from Tamarindo’s HQ. You’ll hear a bit of background noise as the band’s team sets up.

We reference this episode about the Latino Media Consortium: https://podcasts.apple.com/at/podcast/why-we-need-more-latine-led-news-rooms-with-lucy-flores/id1102882792?i=1000712423695
