概要

 The American prison system is a way of punishment for lawbreaking offenses under the state and federal authority. It is criticized for being inhumane, ineffective, and flawed. The United States maintains a higher incarceration rate than most developed countries, with incarceration rate growing sharply since the 1970s2. The expenses related to prison, parole, and probation operations have an annual estimated cost of around $81 billion
