In the summer of 1984, a salvage diver named Leo Okonkwo descended into the wreck of the Bermuda, a schooner that sank in 120 feet of water off the coast of Munising, Michigan, in 1870. He was looking for copper ingots. He found something else. The wreck had been picked clean by decades of salvage, but the forward hold was sealed—not by silt or debris, but by a door made of copper, bolted shut with iron rivets. Inside, the water was warm. And there was light. Leo spent three minutes inside that hold. When he surfaced, he wouldn't tell anyone what he saw. He only said the bottom of Lake Superior is not where the lake ends. It's where something else begins. This is his story, as he told it to me one night at the Munising Boat Club, after the third whiskey. He never dived again. #LakeSuperior #Munising #BermudaWreck #SalvageDiver #CopperDoor #WarmWater #WhatLivesBelow #1984 #UpperPeninsula #LostTime #SubmergedHorror #DeepWater #CopperIngots #DivingAccident #BoatClub #LeoOkonkwo #FexingoHorror #HorrorPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
