    Thank you for joining us for Series 3 of the Going Rogue Club podcast. We’ve had an incredible selection of guests, all with different pathways into the industry, working both in front of and behind the camera.

  • Going Rogue with Mounia Akl

    Today we’re joined by writer and director Mounia Akl. Her feature Costa Brava, Lebanon premiered at Venice before travelling to film festivals all around the world. She’s since directed episodes of The Responder, Boiling Point and House of Guinness, as well as upcoming comedy It Gets Worse written by Leo Reich.


    Mounia talks about her journey into filmmaking, how storytelling shapes how we see ourselves and the world around us, and shares some great advice for filmmakers at every stage of their careers. This is also our first joint hosting setup, with both Sam and Phil in the room! Expect some great stories from set, plenty of artistic insight and a lot of laughs along the way.

We discuss his writing process, how he approaches adapting real-life stories for screen and ponder on the future of the industry and how the role of the writer has changed over time.     Jade talks about her journey into performing, from growing up in Wallasey to studying at Cambridge, and how she developed her distinctive voice as a performer and writer along the way. Drawing on her own experiences navigating the elite traditions of the university, Eat The Rich (but not me mates x) blends sharp comedy with social commentary on class and access, and was an instant hit at the Fringe. Now it's being developed for television and Jade is set to collaborate with our very own Samantha Beddoe and Philip Barantini and It's All Made Up Productions on the show. Watch this space!
