  • EP.193 The Design Brief - Michael Henderson (Holes in the Ground)
    2026/06/16
The Design Brief segment of The Golfing Greenkeeper Podcast is proudly brought to you by McMahons. Check out their website to get a better understanding of their suite of services and outstanding portfolio of work at www.mcmahons.net.auFrom humble beginnings in Melbourne after finishing school, Michael Henderson found a desire in wanting to understand golf course architecture much more. He read all he could find and put himself on a path to earning an opportunity to work in this rather niche industry. From submitting design work to a golf course architecture competition, to working at Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Michael wanted in on the golf architecture world and nothing was going to stop him. He gained a couple of different opportunities over time working with a couple of well known firms, including shaping on site helping to build the well known and now famous Tara Iti in New Zealand.Fast forward to today and Michael is now a member of the Society of Australian Golf Course architects having completed his own work to redesign an amazing transformation of Mallacoota Golf Club after the devastating 2019 bushfires, along with recent work at Flinders Golf Club on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.Come along for the ride as we launch into Michael's background and career, along with some fun and interesting discussions around courses other than 18 holes. You hit 'em clean and we'll keep 'em green! The Golfing Greenkeeper - InstagramThe Golfing Greenkeeper - FacebookThe Golfing Greenkeeper TV - YouTubeSend me an email to - thegolfinggreenkeeper@gmail.comPeople and places mentioned in this podcast:Holes in the GroundMichael Henderson SAGCA ProfileSociety of Australian Golf Course Architects (SAGCA)The Lakes Golf ClubPennant Hills Golf ClubRoyal Lytham & St Annes Golf ClubSandhurst ClubNorth Berwick Golf ClubHokitika Golf ClubRoyal Melbourne Golf ClubTom DoakTony Cashmore Profile - Planet GolfTara Iti Golf Club13th BeachThe Dunes Golf LinksRenaissance GolfThe National Golf Club - Gunnamatta CourseConcord Golf Club7 Mile BeachClayton DeVries & Pont (CDP)Mallacoota Golf & Country ClubMallacoota's Story - The Victorian Bushfires RememberedCurlewis Golf ClubFlinders Golf ClubWollongong Golf ClubAlister MacKenzie SocietyBarwon Heads Golf ClubNewgreens ChatswoodMoore Park Golf CourseBarnbougle - Bougle RunKingston Heath Golf Club - The FurrowsLatrobe Golf Club - The IslandCommonwealth Golf ClubMetropolitan Golf ClubCrafter Mogford - Golf StrategiesEP.187 The Design Brief - Scott ChampionEP.78 Keeper of the Greens - John MannEP.130 Keeper of the Greens - Adam Lamb
