  • S03E08 Dealing with Life When You Can Not Be Home
    2026/06/28

There are some phone calls that change your life forever.

I was in Toledo, Ohio, picking up a load when I got the call that my sister had unexpectedly passed away. In a matter of seconds, everything changed. One moment I was just another truck driver doing my job... the next, I was trying to figure out how to cope with overwhelming grief while still being hundreds of miles away from my family.

In this episode, I share what happened, how my company and dispatcher helped me get home, and some practical advice for other drivers who may one day find themselves facing the same heartbreaking situation.

Life doesn't stop just because you're on the road. As truck drivers, we miss birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and sometimes we're faced with tragedies that happen when we're hundreds—or even thousands—of miles from the people we love.

This isn't an episode about having all the answers. It's about navigating one of the hardest realities of life on the road, taking care of yourself, knowing when to ask for help, and remembering that no load is more important than getting home safely.

If you've ever received one of those life-changing phone calls while you were away from home, this episode is for you.

To every driver out there: be safe, be kind to yourself, and don't be afraid to lean on the people around you. Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is admit you can't carry the weight alone.

Thank you for being part of this community.

Keep the bugs off your glass, the bears off your ass, and always keep the shiny side up.

  • S03E07 Truckers Against Trafficking
    2026/06/22

For years, most truck drivers have walked past those Truckers Against Trafficking posters hanging in truck stops without giving them much thought. I know I did.

Like a lot of people, I assumed human trafficking was something that happened somewhere else—big cities, foreign countries, dark alleys, and places far removed from everyday life on the road.

The truth is far more complicated.

Human trafficking happens in communities across America, including places truck drivers visit every day. Truck stops, rest areas, hotels, restaurants, gas stations, and travel centers can all become points of contact between victims, traffickers, and the people who may be in a position to help.

In this episode, we take a closer look at Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT), how the organization got started, why truck drivers have become such an important part of the fight against human trafficking, and what warning signs every driver should know.

This isn't about becoming a detective.

    It's not about confronting suspects.

It's about understanding what human trafficking really looks like, recognizing when something doesn't seem right, and knowing how to report it safely.

Sometimes one phone call can make all the difference.

If you're a truck driver, a transportation professional, or simply someone who wants to learn more about this issue, I hope you'll watch, share, and help spread awareness.

Because the first step in helping is knowing what to look for.

    National Human Trafficking Hotline:

📱 Text "HELP" or "INFO" to 233733 (BEFREE)

If you suspect human trafficking, do not intervene directly. Report what you see to the appropriate authorities and let trained professionals handle the situation.

Have you noticed how anger seems to dominate social media?

Tonight we're talking about the rise of outrage culture on Trucking YouTube and social media in general. Why do angry videos get so many views? Why do creators seem pushed toward more extreme content? Is social media rewarding the loudest voices instead of the smartest ones?

This isn't a political discussion and it's not about calling out specific creators. It's a conversation about culture, algorithms, human nature, and the trucking community.

  • S03E05 Did You Quit a Company or a Dispatcher
    2026/06/14

A recent trucking news story got me thinking about something every driver has experienced at one time or another: a breakdown in communication with dispatch.

This isn't about deciding who's right or wrong in a lawsuit. It's about asking the bigger question:

Could the situation have been avoided?

When should a driver go over a dispatcher's head? When should management get involved? How many opportunities should a company get before a driver decides it's time to move on?

Tonight we're talking about driver-dispatcher relationships, communication breakdowns, workplace conflict, and why sometimes good drivers leave good companies.

Most importantly, we're asking the question every trucker should consider before turning in the keys:

    Have you exhausted every avenue?

  • S03E03 Trucking - Livestreams - and Distracted Driving
    2026/06/07

    Send us Fan Mail

Remember when the most distracting thing in a truck was trying to tune in a radio station? Today, some drivers are livestreaming, reading comments, responding to viewers, and creating content while rolling down the highway.

In this episode of Gen X Trucking with the Mighty Philbert, we take a humorous but honest look at distracted driving, social media, livestream culture, and why common sense may be disappearing faster than a pay phone.

We'll discuss what the law actually says, the difference between recording and livestreaming, distracted-driving statistics, real-world examples, and why operating an 80,000-pound truck while hosting a talk show might not be the greatest idea.

This isn't about judging anybody. It's a conversation between drivers about safety, responsibility, and maybe remembering that the internet can wait.

  • S03E02 When Trucking was King
    2026/06/03

    Send us Fan Mail

There was a time when trucking felt different.

The trucks weren't as comfortable. The technology wasn't nearly as advanced. Drivers relied on paper maps, CB radios, and experience rather than satellites and screens.

But many drivers will tell you there was something special about life on the road back then.

In this episode of Gen X Trucking with The Mighty Philbert, we take a look at the Motor Carrier Act of 1980 and how it transformed the trucking industry forever. We'll explore the rise of trucking culture in the 1970s, the deregulation era, falling freight rates, changing driver pay, and the growing pressures that modern drivers face.

This isn't a story about whether the old days were perfect.

It's a story about what changed, what was gained, what was lost, and whether the trade was worth it.

If you're a truck driver, a Gen Xer, or simply someone interested in how America has changed over the last fifty years, this episode is for you.

    What do you think?

Was trucking better then, better now, or somewhere in between?

Let me know in the comments.
