  • EP 54: Mountain Ultra-Running, The First Woman To Complete The Picnic, And Endlessly Pushing Limits with Kelly Halpin (Part 1)
    2026/03/29

Hello, and welcome back to the Shadows Run Podcast!

Today's episode is part 1 of a conversation with Kelly Halpin. Kelly is a professional mountain ultra runner and adventure athlete. She spent her earlier years climbing, hiking, and snowboarding in the Tetons and surrounding wilderness. For the past decade Kelly has merged her passions for running, climbing and exploring remote and wild places by setting fastest known times around the world and establishing long technical routes in her home mountain ranges. She enjoys the challenge of pushing herself mentally through difficult endurance feats, typically solo and unsupported. Kelly works hard through adventure and art to inspire people to get outside and connect with the natural world.

In this first half of our conversation, we talk about Kelly's early mountain running career, specifically focusing on stories and accomplishments in the Teton Range. Kelly was the first woman to do both the classic Grand Teton "Picnic" pioneered by David Gonzales (episode 39!), as well as the first woman to complete the Moranic back in 2015. I ask Kelly what it was like psychologically tackling these crazy endurance feats, without many examples to look to as inspiration, and without any female examples prior. She tells the insane story of her Moranic, involving storms and a rescue and severe dehydration. We go on to talk about other Picnic variations she went on to pioneer in the Tetons, and about what motivates Kelly to keep going when things feel impossibly hard.

This is a fun one, y'all. Enjoy!

  • EP 53: A Box Of Rattlesnakes, Working For World Wildlife Fund In Montana, And Bison Restoration with Dennis Jørgensen
    2026/03/15

Hello, and welcome back to the Shadows Run Podcast!

Today's episode features Dennis Jørgensen. Dennis is the Bison Program Manager with the World Wildlife Fund here in Montana and has worked for them since 2007. In his current role, Dennis manages WWF's bison restoration program in the Great Plains to support Tribes in achieving their vision for the return of bison to their lands and lives while also contributing to the long-term health of the species.

We cover a lot of ground in this episode. Dennis is originally from Canada, and we talk a bit about his life before moving to the States. Dennis worked with rattlesnakes and mountain lions before shifting his focus to bison restoration, and he tells a couple of wild stories about his experiences with those animals!

We go on to talk in depth about bison restoration. Dennis covers the history of near extermination of bison in the Americas in the late 1880s through to the present day, when efforts at bison restoration are going stronger than ever. Dennis and the World Wildlife Fund partner with a number of tribes and tribal organizations in the Great Plains region, and we talk a lot in this conversation about the significance of bringing bison back to their ancestral homelands. This work encompasses more than just biology and ecosystem health; bison restoration is integral to revitalization of culture, traditional food ways, and connection to place.

It was an honor to share in this conversation with Dennis, and I hope you enjoy!

  • EP 51: Defining Evil, God & Freewill, And The Road Less Traveled with Chase Goodwin (Part 2)
    2026/02/15

Hello, and welcome back to the Shadows Run Podcast!

This episode is part 2 of my conversation with friend, adventurer, business owner, writer, podcaster, and Christian man of faith, Chase Goodwin. It is a continuation of our in-depth discussion of faith, belief, religion, and how to connect with people you may fundamentally disagree with. We pick up right where we left off in part 1, with me asking Chase what he would say to those who simply don't or can't believe in the Christian worldview!

We go deep in this conversation. We talk about...

    • defining what is "evil"
    • where we source truth
    • I ask Chase for his thoughts on the afterlife and what "hell" looks like from a Christian perspective
    • Chase explains why he views hate as an essential component of love
    • the soverignty of God vs. free will
    • views on free speech
    • shifting stances on social and political issues
    • Chase's experience stepping out of the traditional system to forge his own path and build a career aligned with his integrity
    • ...and So. Much. More.

This conversation is deeply philosophical, thought provoking, and at times challenging. I really hope our dialogue can inspire us all to ask hard questions, to make friends in unlikely places, and to continue speaking truth even (and especially!) in the face of opposition.

Thank you for being here! Please enjoy.

  • EP 50: Friendship Across Divides, Faith Vs. Belief, And Exploring Christianity with Chase Goodwin (Part 1)
    2026/02/01

Hello, and welcome back to the Shadows Run Podcast!

Today's episode features part 1 of a conversation with friend, adventurer, business owner, writer, podcaster, and Christian man of faith, Chase Goodwin.

Chase and I detail the full story of our friendship in our conversation, and on so many levels our connection is an unlikely one! Chase and I are two humans from vastly different backgrounds, who hold some strongly opposed beliefs, but who have found a way to love and value the friendship of the other through a foundation of mutual respect, curiosity, and a desire to understand.

Chase is someone I deeply admire for his sincerity, his courage, his kindness, and his convictions formed through real thought and study of life. We strongly believe our world is in need of more friendships and conversations that bridge divides, and that unite people with fundamentally divergent views and beliefs. It is our hope that this conversation can serve as one model of that kind of friendship.

    In this conversation...:

    • we describe our unlikely friendship and how we have been able to learn from one another
    • Chase tells the story of his early life navigating homelessness and finding Christianity
    • we dive into the concepts of faith and belief
    • we talk about our own lived experiences with religion
    • we talk about mainstream Christian culture in America today
    • ...and a whole lot more

    2026/01/18

Hello, and welcome back to the Shadows Run Podcast!

Today's episode is part 2 of a conversation with author, illustrator, podcast host, ultralight backpacker, and UFO researcher, Mike Clelland. In this half of our conversation, Mike and I dive right back in where we left off in part 1.

    • We talk about the various archetypal representations of the owl across time and across cultures
    • Mike shares a handful of stories he has received from others in his research about their powerful encounters

  • EP 46: Hitchhiking Across New Zealand, Pursuing Work As A Doula, and The Beauty Of An Unconventional Life with Chloe Carnegey (Part 2)
    2025/12/07

Hello, and welcome back to the Shadows Run Podcast!

This episode is part 2 of my conversation with friend and world traveler, Chloe Carnegey. In this half of our conversation, Chloe and I tell the story of our New Zealand hitchhiking adventure from the mountains of the south island to Queenstown, both sharing journal entries we wrote chronicling those days in real-time. We talk about spending New Year's Eve of 2018 on a magical remote property south of Queenstown, and then about Chloe's travels after New Zealand to Costa Rica and Peru! I ask Chloe about her thoughts on gap years broadly and what that year changed in her, and share some of my thoughts as well.

Chloe and I then talk about what she has been up to in the 7 years since we took our gap years, including her path to her undergraduate degree, and more international travel. We finish the conversation talking about where Chloe is at now, looking to pursue work as a birth doula and diving more deeply into her passion for music and songwriting!

I loved this half of our conversation; Chloe has so much wisdom to share about what makes for a meaningful life and the value of following an authentic path, even if it is unconventional. It was so good to reconnect for this conversation, and if you enjoyed part 1 with Chloe I have no doubt you will love the second half as well!
