There comes a moment in every believer’s life when God calls them to stop walking in circles and finally cross over into what He has promised.

In this powerful message from Joshua 3, Steve Anderson of Stand My Ground Ministries dives deep into the crossing of the Jordan River — a moment where Israel had to leave the wilderness behind and step by faith into a new season.

But crossing over required something difficult:
They had to stop holding onto the past.

The wilderness was familiar.
The pain was familiar.
The bondage was familiar.
Even the struggle had become comfortable.

And many people today are standing at the edge of their Jordan holding onto old addictions, old wounds, old mindsets, old failures, old church hurt, old identities, and old excuses — wondering why they cannot step into what God has prepared for them.

God never intended for His people to live trapped in yesterday.

Joshua told the people to sanctify themselves because God was about to do wonders among them. And when the priests carrying the Ark stepped into the overflowing Jordan, God made a way where there was no way.

This sermon reminds us:

  • You cannot carry your past and fully walk into your promise.

  • Sometimes the miracle starts when your feet step into impossible waters.

  • God will part things in your life once you finally trust Him enough to move forward.

But the story doesn’t end with crossing over.

After Israel crossed, Joshua commanded stones to be taken from the middle of the Jordan and set up as a memorial — a testimony for future generations.

Those stones represented:
“What God brought us through.”

And just like those stones, the scars, battles, storms, addictions, failures, and deliverances in our lives can become testimonies that point people back to the faithfulness of God.

You don’t stay in the river…
But you never forget what God did there.

The enemy wants your past to shame you.
God wants to use it to testify through you.

So when people ask how you made it…
You can point back to the stones.
