Harold Hardrada’s death in 1066, is considered by many to be the end of the Viking era. Some cultures and civilisations tend to peter out slowly and fade away, but as with most things Viking, this was not the case, and Harald certainly went out with a bang rather than a whimper. Whilst he was thought to be a Christian, I’m sure that Odin, the All-Father himself, would have been proud of him

He was undoubtably a skilled leader and warrior whounderstood the need for a strong Kingdom. Alfred promoted literacy amongst his people and was a defender ofthe Christian faith. Alfred developed the legal system blending traditional Anglo-Saxonlaws with Christian principles.
