  • The Story of Prophet Yunus
    2026/03/31

The Story of Prophet Yunus and the Belly of the WhaleWelcome back to another episode of Stories of the Quran, our special Ramadan series dedicated to exploring the rich and profound narratives within the holy text. Today, we dive into the life of Prophet Yunus Alayhis Salaam, also known as Jonah. Famous for being swallowed alive by a whale, his story is a profound masterclass in reliance upon Allah during our darkest moments, the weight of responsibility in giving dawah, and the truth that ultimate guidance rests solely in the hands of the Almighty.

The Weight of the Message and the Storm at SeaProphet Yunus faced immense resistance from his nation. Frustrated by their stubbornness, he made the fateful decision to leave without waiting for divine command. Boarding a laden ship to escape, he found himself caught in a ferocious storm. As the waves swelled, the desperate crew drew lots to decide who must be thrown overboard. Three times, the lot fell to Yunus. Recognizing this as a reprimand from Allah, he willingly cast himself into the raging ocean.

Three Layers of Darkness and the Ultimate SupplicationSwallowed whole by a massive whale sent by Allah, Yunus found himself trapped in an acidic prison. Engulfed in three layers of darkness—the whale's belly, the deep ocean, and the night sky—he turned entirely to his Creator in sheer helplessness. He uttered a supplication so powerful that Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam stated any Muslim who recites it during hardship will have their prayer answered.

The dua of Dhun-Nun is: La ilaha illa anta, subhanaka inni kuntu minadhalimeen. This translates to: There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.

By affirming Tawheed, exalting Allah, and admitting his shortcomings, Yunus was granted miraculous salvation. The whale cast him onto a shore, where Allah caused a healing squash tree to grow over his damaged skin, nursing him back to health.

The Miracle of Guidance and Never Giving UpUnlike the nations of Nuh, Aad, Thamud, or Lut, who were destroyed for disbelief, the nation of Yunus experienced a complete spiritual awakening. When Yunus returned, he discovered all one hundred thousand of his people had embraced faith. Allah flipped their hearts in an instant. This teaches us that guidance is strictly in the hands of Allah. Whether praying for a non-Muslim family member or a struggling friend, our duty is only to deliver the message. We do not control the outcome. We must never give up on making sincere dua and must maintain good thoughts of Allah.

  • The Story of Prophet Musa and Firaun
    2026/03/31

Stories from the Quran: The Unshakable Trust of Prophet Musa

Welcome to another essential episode of Stories from the Quran. In this Ramadan broadcast, we immerse ourselves in the life of the most frequently mentioned prophet in the Quran: Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him. When forced to navigate intense hardship, whether fleeing oppression or battling crippling anxiety, where do you anchor your heart? This episode extracts profound benefits from Surah Ash-Shu'ara, demonstrating how Tawakkul (trust in Allah) can part the oceans in your life.

The Historical Context and Modern Application

We examine the harrowing escape of the Children of Israel from the tyranny of Firaun (Pharaoh). Trapped between a heavily armed military and the violent waves of the sea, the followers of Musa were paralyzed by fear, convinced they would be slaughtered. However, Prophet Musa stood unshaken. Fortified by Yaqeen (certainty), he boldly declared: "No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me."

Our discussion bridges ancient history and contemporary struggles. The Quran is not merely a book to be recited quickly; it is a manual meant to change our hearts. The figures in these stories are archetypes. Firaun represents tyrannical leaders. Haman symbolizes corrupt enablers. Qarun embodies ultra-wealthy individuals funding corruption. We explore how the Saharah (sorcerers) of Egypt, who bewitched the eyes of the people to spread misinformation, parallel today's biased news outlets.

Core Islamic Lessons in This Episode

    • Recognizing arrogance: We delve into the psychology of Firaun, a man so deluded by power that he claimed to be God, yet lacked control over his own heartbeat. We relate this to a Hadith from Sahih Muslim, defining arrogance as rejecting truth and looking down upon people.
    • The mechanics of Tawakkul: Prophet Musa was commanded to strike the sea with his staff. This teaches the principle of tying your camel. You must put in the physical effort, prepare for challenges, and only then leave the ultimate outcome to Allah.
    • Dealing with anxiety: Whether facing a massive life decision, awaiting bad news, or confronting an adversary, we provide actionable advice drawn from the prophets. Learn to silence fears by internalizing the belief that Allah sees a thousand ways out when you cannot see one.
