Paradiso is the third and final part of The Divine Comedy, Dante's epic poem describing man's progress from hell to salvation. In it, the author progresses through nine concentric spheres of heaven. Corresponding with medieval astronomy, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn deal with the four cardinal virtues Prudence, Fortitude, Justice, and Temperance. The remaining two spheres are the fixed stars and the Primum Mobile, containing the purely virtuous and the angels, followed by the Empyrean, or God itself.

La Divina Comedia es un poema alegórico donde el protagonista encuentra su propia identidad a través de un viaje desde el Infierno hasta el Cielo. La vida real y la sobrenatural se entrelazan mediante la lucha entre el ser y el espíritu. El poema consta de tres partes: Infierno, Purgatorio y Paraíso, donde para alcanzar la felicidad humana y religiosa es preciso seguir un camino que obliga a pasar antes por el rechazo del pecado y la purificación del arrepentimiento.

Dante Alighieri ist bis heute weithin bekannt als der Autor der "Göttlichen Komödie", eines der größten und einflussreichsten Werke der Literatur. Weitaus weniger bekannt sind die Werke, die er zuvor verfasst hatte. Eines davon ist "Das Neue Leben", verfasst zwischen 1292 und 1295. Vieles an diesem Werk ist außergewöhnlich. So schrieb Dante es nicht in Latein, damals der Sprache der Wissenschaft, sondern in seinem toskanischen Dialekt, dem heutigen Italienisch. Bemerkenswert ist auch die Form, in der er schrieb.

The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood began as a group of painters, including Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Holman Hunt, who wished to reject the stern and academic strictures of current painting and return to the simpler and more uncomplicated days before the Italian High Renaissance and the days of Raphael. The movement was short lived but very influential and, as well, was taken up by a number of different arts.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti was born on May 12th, 1828 in London, England. Together with William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais, they developed and founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. It’s mission: to reform English art and return to the detail, intense colours and complex compositions of Quattrocento Italian and Flemish art. The brotherhood's magazine, The Germ, was first published in 1850, with Rossetti contributing a poem, 'The Blessed Damozel', and a story about a fictional Italian artist inspired by a vision of a woman.

It is often said that two things are unavoidable: death and taxes. Certainly the latter is a common thorn in adult life, but as to the former it seems that for many people it is merely a hiccup in life’s journey. A journey they wish, if being of good deed and character, to share at the eternity of heaven’s largesse, a reward for faith and the obligations of religion. Written in alternating prose and poetry, La Vita Nuova is a profound reflection on the nature of love, devoted to Dante's muse Beatrice. Following Beatrice's death in 1290, Dante became obsessed with the young Florentine woman, whom he only ever knew from a distance. He believed his love for her was a form of divine love and saw her as an image of salvation itself - a theme that is later explored in his masterpiece The Divine Comedy, where she guides him through heaven.
