For Esther and Noah Lysander, children of the famous/infamous General Ryck Lysander, their time of service has come to a close. They both made many sacrifices during their careers, to themselves and their loved ones. But as retirement looms ahead, there remains what is perhaps the most important question:

Twins living in their father's oversized shadow as a Marine. One officer, one enlisted. Can they do justice to their father's memory? The demands of military service can be rough on loved ones, whether husband and wife or brother and sister, and that is no different for Esther and Noah Lysander, twin children of General Ryck Lysander, former Chairman of the United Federation. But blood still runs deep, and when Esther, now a battalion commander, finds herself suddenly without a sergeant major, she turns to family.

The Undead have been blooded in combat. Now it’s time to prove their value. The huge cost and effort to reanimate them must be worth it. With no rights of their own, their very existence depends upon their return on investment. But as the Undead are finding their footing and discovering how to best fight the war with the Tucanan invaders, the aliens are not standing still. They are experimenting with their evolutionary past to create new ways to fight humanity’s military forces.

Following a bloody escape from the clutches of their corporate enslavers, and aided by their new allies, the android race who refer to themselves as the Deimers, the Genesians arrive at a temporary safe haven. Once there, they quickly begin preparations to defend themselves against a galaxy that has now branded them as outcast, abomination, and pariah. Soon after the Genesians publicly declare their rights as free and independent beings, they are viciously attacked.

Captain Esther Lysander, UFMC, is a combat Marine. Her new orders, however, are APOC, or “At the Pleasure of the Chairman,” and while she knows this type of assignment could be career-threatening, she feels duty-bound to accept them. There is no SOP for being APOC, except that it isn't combat-as-usual. Part spy, part soldier, part political window dressing, Esther has to adapt to everything from clandestine meetings with rebel forces, hostage rescues, and off-the-record sniper missions to being a courier between the chairman and other heads of state.

Noah Lysander, son of the former Marine Commandant and Chairman of the Federation, followed his twin sister in enlisting as a Marine. While Esther excelled, getting commissioned as an officer, Noah is not so driven, and when he proposes to Miriam, he makes a pledge to be a better husband and future parent than his own father had been. Reenlisting for armor, Noah becomes a crewman on an M1 Davis, the most powerful tank ever developed.

As the Tucanan war machine continues to evolve and try new tactics, all of humanity must evolve as well, and the Undead seem to be the guinea pigs for each dangerous mission. It isn’t just the alien Tucs who are a danger. Rumors of unholy science still bandy about social media, and when battalion counter-assaults on Chinook to take back the planet, one of the Marines is killed and recovered by the locals. When they perform an autopsy, they discover . . . they don’t know what it is, only that it isn’t normal.

After the majority of his body is destroyed during a high-risk operation, Aiden Thorn is subjected to an experimental, potentially lifesaving procedure… one he never tacitly agreed to undergo. With no choice but to see the unorthodox new process through, he accepts his fate and works to adapt to his new life. But when an intergalactic corporation steps in and essentially claims ownership of Aiden and everyone like him, he is forced to do the two things he does best… survive, and fight.

The end of the Undead could be upon us. The Undead continue to take the fight to the Tucanan invaders, but it’s difficult to achieve such notable success without attracting attention. Rumors continue to surface about clones and zombies, sparking protests. Irrefutable proof surfaces that at least one of the Undead was previously declared KIA and buried with honors, and then an insider goes public, sparking uproar and calls for official investigation.
