This chapter prepares Timothy for fearful persecution occurring in Ephesus due to 2 things- false teaching and Nero’s wicked tactics against the church. Timothy had to be prepared by Paul to endure the church through these brutal attacks. Everyone thought Nero was so wicked that he must be the antichrist. Paul proved that was not true. In this podcast Paul challenges Timothy to be a soldier, farmer and fighter for Christ. He talks about these 3 groups being sold out to win the battles, crops and prize of the crown. Timothy must persist and suffer for this victory in Christ and His church to occur. If Timothy doesn’t persist on carrying the torch for Christ the church could suffer and give in to false teaching thus be destroyed. Timothy must serve God diligently and set an example for others.
