  • ERP is not the best way to get over OCD
    2026/03/31
    Episode Notes

ERP is not the whole story in overcoming OCD. It’s crucial, it’s foundational to face your fears and stop avoiding your life through exposures, daily exposures, lifestyle exposures, all of it.

But the real ingredient is one word, commitment. Doing what you say you’re going to do, even when it’s uncomfortable, in service of getting better.

That’s where change starts. Not in perfect exposures, but in small, consistent follow through. When you build commitment, you start to believe you can actually change.

ERP is a tool, but commitment is the foundation. Start small today and keep your word to yourself. That’s how you take your life back.

  • ERP does not need to drag on
    2026/03/26
    Episode Notes

Exposure therapy does not need to drag on.

Yes, sometimes we move gradually, and not everyone is ready for big exposures right away. But moving too slowly can accidentally reinforce the idea that bigger exposures are dangerous.

The goal isn’t just comfort. The goal is learning that you can handle discomfort.

With the right support and skills, people can often do much more than they think. You can take bigger steps. You can move forward faster than you might expect.

This is a reminder that growth doesn’t always have to happen at a snail’s pace.

  • OCD makes you feel special
    2026/03/24
    Episode Notes

OCD can make you feel like you’re the exception. Like your thoughts are different, more real, more true.

But if someone else came to you with the exact same fear, you wouldn’t trust it. You’d call it OCD. You wouldn’t bet your life on it.

That’s the trap. In the moment, it feels uniquely convincing. But everyone with OCD feels that same “this time it’s different.”

Getting better starts with recognizing that you’re not the exception. Your mind is doing what OCD minds do.

The real you is the part that can step back, notice it, and say “this is OCD.” That voice isn’t dramatic, but it’s grounded and true.

You are unique as a person. Just not uniquely exempt from OCD.

  • A natural remedy for OCD
    2026/03/24
    Episode Notes

Here’s a natural support for OCD that people underestimate: go outside and walk.

    __

When you’re stuck in rumination, tracking, and mental loops, your world shrinks to your thoughts. Walking helps you re-engage your body, your senses, and the actual world around you.

    __

This isn’t avoidance and it’s not a replacement for ERP or medication. Keep doing your real OCD work. But also give your mind somewhere healthy to land.

    __

OCD pulls you inward. Movement brings you back outward. That shift matters.

    __

Let your body move, let your senses wake up, let your mind get a bit of rest. Especially now. It’s spring.

    __

    Step outside. Keep walking.

  • OCD treatment NEEDS great organization!
    2026/03/19
    Episode Notes

    OCD treatment needs great organization.

    __

If you’re struggling to follow through with exposures, or you’re a therapist trying to build accountability with clients, this matters.

    __

Exposures don’t happen “sometime today.” They need to be scheduled precisely and tied to real routines.

    __

Just like building any habit, this takes structure, reminders, and consistency. The harder the task, the more intentional the system needs to be.

    __

Clean up your reminders. Get specific about timing. Build it into your day.

    __

    This is often the breakthrough.

    __

Giving you strength to keep going.

  • ERP needs a rebranding!
    2026/03/18
    Episode Notes

Exposure therapy needs a rebrand. A lot of people hear “exposure therapy” and think it means forcing yourself to suffer or “torture” yourself in order to eventually get better. That framing is not only inaccurate, it actually pushes people away from something that can really help.

A better way to understand it is courage therapy. The goal isn’t to hurt yourself — it’s to strengthen your ability to live in alignment with what is real, true, and meaningful to you. Yes, there is fear involved, and I don’t want to minimize that. But every time you choose not to listen to the OCD voice, you’re strengthening a deeper, wiser voice inside of you that knows how you actually want to live.

If you’re doing ERP, you’re not torturing yourself — you’re building courage. And that gets stronger over time.

  • Internet compulsions are tough
    2026/03/16
    Episode Notes

Internet compulsions are one of the hardest parts of OCD today.

Research compulsions are everywhere. Reddit threads. Google searches. AI chats. Endless “just one more check” loops looking for certainty or reassurance.

And there’s an added difficulty. The internet itself is highly addictive and difficult to regulate even without OCD.

That’s why response prevention here sometimes needs more than willpower.

Assistive technologies that block apps or websites on schedules can give people real space to build skills and break compulsive habits. Just like glasses help someone see, tools can help people practice the inner work of resisting compulsions.

Therapists should be talking about this more and even learning these tools themselves.

    Curious what people think.
