Evelyn Foster has just moved to Granite, Michigan, and at first, the town is just as she expected it to be. Small. Insular. Quiet. On the upside, she gets to spend every day working with her best friend, one of the customers at the local coffee shop was definitely flirting with her, and her two German Shepherds seem to enjoy their new rental house and its fenced back yard.

When her younger dog, Atlas, alerts on a patch of dirt while they’re out for a walk, Evelyn’s heart rate accelerates, but she tries to keep things in perspective. The pup’s job is to locate human remains, but he’s still in training, and Eve is certain he must have made a mistake, but she contacts the police just to be on the safe side.

When a man, whom everyone thought had run out on his wife, is unearthed, the sleepy town suddenly wakes up and Eve finds herself reluctantly swept into a murder investigation.
